Role Definition:
This position is in CFD and Engine Performance team which provides performance and simulation support for Caterpillar Business Units around the globe. The engineer has responsibility to develop software application for gas turbine performance. He or she will work closely with the team members and IT support team to design, develop, and maintain Solar’s performance methods utilizing DevOps and Agile methodology. This position requires working knowledge to develop a full-stack web interface for Solar's proprietary FASTE software that is used to analyze, predict, and guarantee the performance and emissions of the company's current and future product line.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BE in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of engines or gas turbines and their control and operation
- 10+ years of programming experience
- Strong background in Object-Oriented programming
- Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns
- The ability to write and communicate ideas and issues clearly.
- Personal skills include the ability to work well with others and team spirit.
- Experience working with databases and user permissions.

- Windows Software development using Visual Studio utilizing DevOps and/or Git
- Applied successful use of Agile methodology for software or product development.
- Web Development using JavaScript, CGI, Perl, VBScript, and XML.
- Full Stack Web Development with the latest web technologies.
- Experience in REST-based Windows API development
- Experience working with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
- Maintaining Windows and Linux Servers.
- Working knowledge of gas turbine engine software tools and principles
Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Level Basic Understanding:
• Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function.
• Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project.
• Explains the concepts of phase, activity, task, and deliverable.
• Gives examples of critical paths in projects.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Generates specifications for parts or components with CAD software.
• Reuses design components via reusable libraries following standard procedures.
• Uses CAD to perform basic drafting such as wire frames, solid objects and array of objects.
• Performs routine changes to computerized schematics or drawings.
• Creates views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions; creates perspective drawings and orthogonal views.
