Role Description

Observability automation platform provides the foundation of the Bank’s Production Engineering capabilities and is responsible for providing products, strategy and thought leadership across the Bank around Observability / Monitoring and Capacity Management. Alongside our Engineering, Architecture and SRE pillars, the observability automation platform product and strategy team are responsible for managing our portfolio of 20 products across the full lifecycle, providing leadership of vision, strategy, driving transformation including migration to GCP.

Each observability automation platform product is implemented globally is providing core product capabilities underpinning Availability, Event, Performance and Capacity Management used across most of the Bank’s Infrastructure and Application estates, including Cloud.

Observability automation platform is currently engaged in a multi-year transformation of Observability / Monitoring and Capacity Management across the Bank to support the Hybrid Cloud and other initiatives.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Systems Management SRE who is able to technically lead multiple Observability / Monitoring Products SRE and be involved in the transformation squads of Deutsche Bank’s Observability / Monitoring landscape. 

This role will require System Management Development to start with engineering products like Geneos, Nimsoft, Telegraf, NRI, Netcool, Kapacitor, InfluxDB, KDB, Ansible etc but will not be limited to it rather will have opportunity to enrich your technical capabilities in various product engineering and migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Your key responsibilities

  • We are seeking an exceptional software engineer to work in the observability automation platforms team with 4 to 8 years of relevant experience.
  • The team is responsible for the strategy and engineering of a broad portfolio of systems management applications including monitoring & event management, performance & capacity management. 
  • We are globally diverse team based in the UK, US, Singapore, and India. The team covers the development and engineering of a wide range of products and solutions.
  • The successful candidate will be a highly competent engineer who has knowledge in the systems management tooling domain, specifically with monitoring, metric, and discovery technologies.
  • This should include some experience in the development of either - monitoring technologies (agent and enterprise level tools), automated discovery, performance metrics capture & analysis and visualization tooling capabilities.
  • The candidate provides regulatory compliance, quality assessment & improvement, security, consultation, awareness & training, and recommendations for applications.
  • The candidate should be willing to learn and embrace new technologies and keen to develop and broaden their systems management knowledge and skillset.

 

The candidate will be required to undertake a variety of development activities including:

  • Day-to-day engineering activities & implementation of the monitoring infrastructure, core product suite and DB customized routines
  • Day-to-day servicing of user requests, support for client issues, support for infrastructure and providing user training
  • Implementation of changes to OTeL, Tivoli Netcool/Omnibus, Nimsoft, ITRS Geneos, CA Inventory Manager products & infrastructure
  • Maintaining process and procedure documentation and tracking of all problems and changes
  • Participating in outage/problem management activities
  • Supporting Disaster Recovery tests and processes
  • Manage the application controls, service levels, access rights and overall operations.
  • Actively seek out and eliminate toil.
  • Focus on spotting run book automation opportunities following them through to fruition.
  • Ad-hoc projects and tasks related to monitoring products.
  • Script development (Python, Perl, Shell, Power Shell, Java etc.)
  • Integrations with a variety of third-party tools and solutions
  • Operational requirements of application such as documentation, automation etc.

Your skills and experience

  • Have significant experience in monitoring solutions, specifically IBM Omnibus, CA Nimsoft and ITRS Geneos, OTeL.
  • A strong core production support engineer with a solid background in the UNIX command line, Perl, python and shell scripting, SQL, Java
  • An ‘all-rounder’ with experience and knowledge in a variety of technologies including Oracle, MSSQL, Sybase, HTML/CSS, REST
  • Experience in SDLC processes, concepts and methodologies, CI-CD pipelines and supporting technologies and tools - Agile, Waterfall, JIRA, Bitbucket, GIT, Jenkins, TeamCity, Artifactory, Puppet, Automated deployment (Ansible)
  • Appreciation, knowledge and experience of competitive industry standard monitoring technologies and solutions would be advantageous.
  • Strong testing methodology and experience (ideally in HP ALM)
  • Able to take on additional responsibilities, in line with your seniority.
