The Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) team which is a part of Grid Solutions, a GE Renewable Energy business, delivers high power (>100MVAr) Flexible AC Transmission Systems as Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) and Static Var Compensators (SVC), Fixed Series Capacitors (FSC) and Synchronous Condensers (SC) systems. These FACTS devices are used to control power system voltage and reactive power flow, also typically used to improve the integration of renewables to the power system making the future power system more sustainable, well as to improve the power system stability and transmission system efficiency. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced FACTS electrical engineer with a strong background in power system design & studies for MV/HV substation. Work involves performing system and main equipment studies, component specifications and inquiries and technical discussions with other parties (suppliers, customers, R&D, internal parties)

In this position, you will be mainly involved in design and engineering of SVC and STATCOM solutions in close coordination with various engineering team globally. As a key member of team, you will be responsible for designing of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) solution for global projects & tenders.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Specification and implementation of grid/transmission system modelling as well as SVC and STATCOM system modelling in most common simulation environment (PSCAD, PSSE).
  • Performing of various power system studies like load flow, short circuit, transient stability and switching transients, insulation coordination, simulation of temporary and transient overvoltage stresses on equipment and surge arrester energy ratings.
  • Developing scripts to automate execution and analysis of simulations
  • Co-operation and collaboration with the ITO (sales) team to understand and being able to find the most feasible solution that customers are seeking for.
  • Support in technical tendering, review and approve technical specifications, plans and estimations.
  • Support in research and development tasks in the field of FACTS NPI. Organize and participate in innovation workshops, contribute in patent applications

Required qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline with advanced level of experience in power system study and modelling of electrical network
  • Design experience in HV and MV applications with good knowledge of electrical/power engineering.
  • Understanding of power system analysis (e.g. system performance analysis and grid code compliance studies).
  • Experience on simulation tools (PSCAD, DigSilent, PSS/E, ATP or similar).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English

Desired qualifications

  • Proficiency in PSSE /PSCAD simulation tools will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in international projects with working exposure of international, national and customer specific standards in electricity.
  • Knowledge of power electronics devices and modelling of electrical network in HV/EHV system like HVDC & FACTS.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between ₹1,155,000.00 and ₹2,145,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
