Email MTA Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Email MTA Expert with strong expertise in configuring, managing, and optimizing MTAS and other Mail Transfer Agents. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in high-volume email delivery environments, IP reputation management, deliverability optimization, and email infrastructure scaling.

This role requires deep technical knowledge of SMTP, DNS, authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), feedback loops, and performance tuning to ensure maximum inbox placement and system reliability.

What Youll be Responsible for,

• Configure, deploy, and manage MTAs for high-volume email delivery.
• Design and maintain scalable email infrastructure (SMTP servers, IP pools, domain management).
• Monitor email delivery performance, bounce rates, complaint rates, and inbox placement.
• Implement and manage email authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, rDNS).
• Handle IP warming strategies, IP/domain reputation management, and blacklist remediation.
• Configure throttling, routing rules, virtual MTAs (vMTAs), and delivery policies in PowerMTA.
• Analyze logs and troubleshoot delivery issues (soft/hard bounces, deferrals, blocks).
• Integrate MTA with applications, CRMs, or marketing platforms via SMTP/API.
• Maintain feedback loop integrations (FBLs) with major ISPs.
• Ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and email best practices.
• Automate monitoring and reporting using scripts/tools (Shell, Python, etc.).
• Collaborate with DevOps, Marketing, and Security teams to improve deliverability and infrastructure resilience.

What Youd have,

• 57 years of hands-on experience in email infrastructure management.
• Strong expertise in MTAs(PowerMTA, green arrow, postfix etc..) configuration and optimization.
• In-depth knowledge of SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP networking.
• Experience managing high-volume email traffic (millions per day preferred).
• Strong understanding of email authentication standards (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
• Experience with IP warming, domain reputation, and blacklist handling (Spamhaus, Barracuda, etc.).
• Familiarity with Linux server administration (CentOS/Ubuntu).
• Experience with log analysis and performance monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of database systems (MySQL/PostgreSQL) is a plus.
• Scripting experience (Bash/Python) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with additional MTAs (Postfix, GreenArrow, Sendmail).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
