Electrical Design Engineer

Purpose of the Position

To develop and deliver complete Electrical Detail Design for hospital projects under the guidance of the MEPF Lead, ensuring safe, compliant, energyefficient and fully coordinated electrical systems integrated with Architecture, Structure, HVAC, PHE, Fire, ELV, IBMS and Medical Equipment requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical layouts: power, lighting, small power, earthing, lightning protection, and cable routing.
• Develop single line diagrams (SLD), schematics, panel schedules, load schedules and circuiting plans.
• Design critical power architecture for healthcare areas: OT/ICU/ER isolation power, UPS, ATS/AMF, emergency lighting.
• Perform and validate design calculations: load estimation, demand factors, voltage drop, short circuit, and cable sizing.
• Coordinate electrical interfaces with HVAC equipment loads, MGPS alarms, medical equipment, and IBMS/SCADA requirements.
• Review consultant deliverables, shop drawings and material submittals; provide technical comments and approvals.
• Support BIM coordination (Revit/Navisworks) and resolve clashes with other services.
• Contribute to value engineering by optimizing system selection, routing, redundancy philosophy and lifecycle costs.
• Support tender specs/BOQ and vendor technical evaluations; assist site teams during execution and commissioning.

Special Skills

• Strong understanding of healthcare electrical norms for critical areas, redundancy, segregation and safety.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; working knowledge of Navisworks clash coordination and BIM workflows.
• Sound knowledge of protection coordination concepts and electrical safety best practices.
• Strong documentation, review capability and stakeholder coordination.

Essential Experience

• Electrical DD experience on at least two multispecialty hospitals (300+ beds preferred).
• Hands-on experience with HT/LT systems, DG synchronisation, UPS, earthing and lightning protection.
• Experience coordinating electrical drawings with Architecture/Structure/MEPF and Medical Equipment planners.

• On-time delivery of coordinated electrical DD drawing packages and calculation reports.
• Zero major electrical clashes/omissions during construction due to robust coordination and review.
• Implementation of value engineering recommendations without compromising safety/performance.
