Job Description
Client is seeking an EHS Team Lead to oversee Environment, Health & Safety across its expanding gearbox assembly, tooling and testing operations in Pune. This role is central to building safety systems for a growing plant and supporting major operational scale-up as new facilities come online. You will drive compliance, lead risk reduction initiatives and help shape a proactive safety culture within one of the companys most technically complex and strategically important manufacturing lines.
Key Responsibilities
EHS Leadership & Compliance
- Lead the EHS function for company's gearbox manufacturing operations, including the upcoming 2026 facility expansions.
- Ensure full compliance with Indian statutory requirements and company's global standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Conduct risk assessments, PTW reviews, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Deliver structured training programmes across LOTO, heavy lifting, rotating equipment, ergonomics, and emergency response.
- Support ramp-up activities for new lines to ensure safety systems are embedded early.
Gearbox Assembly Safety Oversight
- Oversee safety practices across gearbox assembly involving large castings, precision mechanical components and rotating equipment.
- Develop SOPs and enforce controls across torqueing, bearing installation, lubrication, alignment, lifting and rigging operations.
- Drive safety improvements tied to productivity goals as the gearbox plant scales up.
Tooling Design & Safety
- Work with tooling and engineering teams to ensure jigs, fixtures, lifting devices and custom tools meet company's safety standards.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement engineering corrections.
- Manage inspection, certification and preventive maintenance for tooling equipment.
Testing Operations Oversight
- Lead EHS oversight in gearbox testing facilities involving load/no-load testing, vibration analysis, lubrication testing and high-speed rotational machinery.
- Ensure all guarding, interlocks, emergency shutdown systems and monitoring controls are in place.
- Analyse test anomalies and propose preventive actions.
Process Improvement
- Identify process risks and drive improvements through engineering controls and lean principles.
- Review safety requirements for localisation, new equipment, layout expansion and upcoming plants.
- Partner with Operations and Industrial Engineering to embed safety into productivity improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering and Maintenance teams.
- Align safety standards with global drivetrain and EHS teams in China and Europe.
- Provide structured reporting on safety performance and improvement plans.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or related field.
- Minimally 15 years of EHS experience in heavy engineering, drivetrain, gearbox, automotive, wind turbine or large-scale manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of Indian EHS regulations and global standards.
- Experience with rotating machinery, heavy lifting and assembly environments preferred.
- NEBOSH / IOSH certification preferred.
- Experience in developing and implementing EHS policies and procedures
- Strong stakeholder management and proven ability to work within a fast-paced matrix structure.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and mentor a team
