Job Description

You’ll be our:  Durability Attribute Engineer

You’ll be based at: IBC Knowledge Park, Bengaluru

You’ll be Aligned with: Team Lead - Simulation CoC

You’llbe A member of: Simulation CoC

What you’ll do at Ather:

Ather Energy has proved itself to be the hallmark and the synonym for Smart, Connected and Intelligent Electric Vehicles in India. Today we are on a journey of exponential growth and marking our presence across the length and breadth of Indian roads.

Continuing this journey further means massive ramping up of production and developing many more top-notch products to redefine and upgrade Customers’ Experience in India.

We don't design just products, rather we design and develop "Product Experience" for which we have to design non-conventional Platforms and Products. Product Validation via Simulations & Testing plays a key role today in accessing the health of the product developments through robust validations covering different physics domains from Fatigue, Crash, NVH, Thermals, Aerodynamics to Vehicle Dynamics. Durability is a crucial attribute for automotives, ensuring their reliability, performance, and safety over an extended period of time. Durability Attribute Engineer at Ather plays a key role in upholding this definition of Durability by developing and implementing comprehensive durability testing programs to assess the performance and longevity of various components, systems, and vehicles under a wide range of operating conditions. With support of simulations, testing & test data analysis, they identify and address potential durability risks & mitigation plans. By leveraging their expertise in strength of materials, fatigue analysis, vibration testing, and failure analysis, they contribute to the development of durable and reliable products that withstand the rigors of real-world use. Their efforts ultimately translate into improved product performance, enhanced customer satisfaction, and reduced warranty costs, solidifying Ather's reputation for producing high-quality and durable products.

As our Durability Attribute Engineer you’ll:

  • Establish durability targets in collaboration with cross-functional teams, based on product requirements, customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and competitive benchmarks.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from simulation and testing functions as well as other key stakeholders in planning and getting Durability tests and simulations executed. Monitor and analyze test data to identify areas for improvement.

  • Analyze test data to interpret test results, identify root causes of failures, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Analyze test data to arrive at key insights to assess existing / new  products for their Durability attribute. Constantly pursue a journey of refining the Durability of the Ather products.

  • Analyze feedback from customers, dealers, and warranty claims to identify durability issues and develop solutions.

  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis of Durability issues and thereby arrive at mitigating strategies.

  • Contribute in improving test vs. simulation correlation in the Durability domain.

  • Document & Maintain Durability specs, test data & learnings across the organization.

  • Always on look out for the cases where test/simulation cases don’t exist or can be improved.

  • Give heads up to Team Leads on any possibility of capability development requirements.

  • Mentor team members on program issues and take required support from simulation team members for necessary program simulation deliverables.

Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Technical subject matter expert in Durability domain.

  • Strong Fundamentals of Mechanics of Solid, Mechanics of failure and Materials science.

  • Strong interest to understand various Physics and related testing and simulation tools.

  • Proficiency in durability testing methods and data analysis techniques. Should have hands-on exposure to commercial softwares like nCode/Siemens for test data analysis.

  • Exposure to Durability testing at vehicle, system and component level fatigue, vibration fatigue, mechanical shock, drop test, crash, etc. Awareness of homologation/regulatory requirements set by government authorities for Durability performance of EVs.

  • Exposure to Durability simulations using any commercial software tools (Altair Hyperworks, Ansys, Abaqus, nCode, FESafe etc.) will be an added advantage.

  • Should have good Product Development experience on Durability aspects from an EV / Automotive  or any other industry. Exposure to Durability design/testing for EVs is desirable.

  • Growth mindset with a constant learning attitude.

  • Exposure to work with various departments/teams e.g. Program, Product, Test, Design etc.

  • Very comfortable in analyzing and taking accuracy vs risk calls.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Comfortable in pushing teams to take decisions with no bias of your own.

  • Comfortable in getting things done by influence rather than control.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
