Job Description
Role Summary
The Director Heavy Engineering will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, driving systems engineering, product development, and integration for complex electro-mechanical products and solutions. This role is accountable for delivering innovative, compliant, and scalable engineering outcomes while collaborating with cross-functional and global teams to support regional and global product initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the strategic roadmap across engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, systems, and product integration.
- Champion technology leadership, innovation, and engineering excellence across the organization.
- Represent the Bengaluru engineering center in global forums and contribute to product strategy and portfolio planning.
Product Design & Development
- Lead end-to-end product development lifecycle: concept, design, engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, validation, and industrialization.
- Ensure designs comply with global and regional standards (EN, ISO, UL, ASME, IEC).
- Drive adoption of energy-efficient, sustainable, and safety-critical engineering practices.
Project Management
- Oversee multiple concurrent engineering programs, ensuring delivery aligned with business objectives, quality, timelines, and budgets.
- Establish milestones, governance, and risk-mitigation frameworks for complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Implement best practices in project execution, including agile/hybrid methodologies, resource planning, and stakeholder communication.
- Present regular progress, risk, and performance updates to senior leadership and global stakeholders.
Global Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with global R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and commercial teams to ensure seamless product integration.
- Align engineering priorities across regions and manage complex global stakeholder expectations.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Build, mentor, and retain high-performing teams of engineers and technical specialists across disciplines.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the engineering organization.
Operational Excellence
- Manage engineering budgets, capacity planning, and operational performance metrics.
- Establish robust design processes, quality systems, and governance models.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Innovation & Technology Adoption
- Drive evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies such as IoT, AI/ML, digital twins, smart systems, and predictive maintenance.
- Stay current with industry trends and assess their applicability to product platforms and engineering processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Mechatronics, or related discipline); masters degree preferred.
- 15+ years of engineering leadership experience within multinational heavy engineering, industrial manufacturing, or capital goods organizations.
- Proven track record of leading large, multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex product development programs.
- Strong expertise in systems engineering, product integration, and safety-critical design.
- Experience working in globally distributed engineering organizations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance local execution with global strategy in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
