Director, Head of India analytics center (IAC), eBay

The Global Analytics organization provides insights and data science capabilities to enable high quality data-driven decision making across eBay.  We are seeking a leader for our India Analytics Center (IAC) to develop and expand the analytics capabilities of our Bangalore-based team.

The Head of IAC will define the vision and strategy to accelerate IAC’s journey towards being the best-in-class center of excellence, specializing in building analytics data products and advanced data science capabilities. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused data science executive with strong technical, analytical, and strategic expertise, a proven track record in building industry-leading analytics products, solving complex problems, driving key business decisions, and leading high-performing teams.

Additionally, this role will serve as the Site Lead for eBay’s Bangalore office, advocating for all employees based there, including those outside of Global Analytics.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead a team of data scientists and analysts to develop analytics data products and solutions for eBay's Markets, Selling, and Finance organizations.

  • Build strong partnerships across analytics and other business functions to ensure the analytics team’s capabilities evolve with business needs.

  • Attract, develop and retain top analytics and data science talent by supporting training, development, recruiting, and mentorship at the India analytics center.

  • Apply advanced analytics and data science techniques (e.g. machine learning, simulation, optimization, and A/B testing) to drive high-quality decisions around the organization and identify high impact business opportunities.

  • Effectively communicate complex analytical findings and their implications to senior leadership and collaborators in a clear and actionable manner

  • Develop and execute data driven strategies and analytics roadmaps to enhance IAC’s capabilities and drive innovation, keeping IAC at the forefront of analytics excellence

What You Will Bring:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 15+ years of experience in data science or analytics, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of building strong analytics partnerships and best-in-class analytics tools and solutions in a global,  matrixed organization

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of factors.

  • Strong understanding of machine learning, predictive modeling, and optimization techniques.

  • Superior communication skills – verbal, written & presentation skill, including ability to transition seamlessly from complex analysis to simple/precise business implications

  • A strong track record of building and leading high-performing, large teams with expertise in management, recruitment, coaching, team-building, and organizational leadership.

  • Willing to take calculated risks and make and influence decisions with imperfect information. E-commerce experience is a plus.
