Who we are:
The Unified Communications Engineering team is looking for a motivated software development principal engineer who can be the engineering lead for a team of DevOps and software development engineers to develop and operate our real time communication applications & platform. We are looking for someone who is an excellent collaborator and has proven experience in Voice over IP technologies.
You would be responsible for collaborating with a team of developers and devops engineers to develop and operate backend components of a real-time communications platform including but not limited to VoIP softphone, Conferencing, Screen Share, Voicemail, Call Recording, and Restful API Services
- Define and own technical architecture for core VoIP real-time communications services
- Actively contribute in roadmap and planning of software delivery
- Review code as final gating authority for deployment ensuring

- Technical authority representation for the team during cross-functional collaboration with other relevant teams
- Skill Requirements:
- Experience with Voice over IP, SIP & Telephony protocols
- Experience with programming languages, e.g. Java, GoLang, python or C/C++
- Convey complex technical issues/problems to programmers in a clear/concise manner.
- Ability to convey complex concepts to business stakeholders in terms relevant to the business.
- Hands-on experience with Open-Source Software
- Working knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases
- Experience with information security and access control protocols
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Analytical with strong problem-solving ability
- Strong prioritization and time leadership skills
- Adaptable and available
- Experience with System Design
- Knowledge of commercial SBCs like Cisco Broadworks, Ribbon as well as open source SIP implementations like Freeswitch and kamalio
- Good linux skills and network debugging in VoIP systems
- Good understanding of IP routing, switching, firewalls, and network security in a carrier-grade environment
- Ability to design and deploy services using micro services architecture and container orchestration preferably Kubernetes
- Demonstrated experience on data security and built-in privacy
- Knowledge on Software Development Lifecycle
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
- Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Develops software update processes for existing applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.
- Trains junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.
- Oversees the researching, writing and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
- Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
- Assists with technical leadership throughout the design process and assists in guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide mentor for Software Development Engineers.
- Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget.
- Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements. Tests and evaluates systems, subsystems and components.
- Acts as a technical contact and liaison for outside vendors and/or customers.
- Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal and external audiences.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
