Job Description
- Optimise product designs for manufacturability, assembly, and cost from initial engagement to production
- Review PCB data and specs to identify manufacturing issues and provide clear feedback for efficient SMT line setup
- Work with Business Development, Engineering, and Quality teams during RFQ/NPI phases to refine product designs
- Align factory capabilities with customer needs to streamline production processes
- Apply DFM expertise to improve practices, increase first-pass yields, speed up production, and ensure successful SMT launches
Responsibilities
- Review PCB designs, providing reports and recommendations to improve manufacturability and yield
- Act as main technical contact for manufacturability, working with design teams and customers to review and adjust designs, signal integrity/power integrity constraints
- Assess manufacturability in NPI and RFQ stages to align proposals with manufacturing capabilities
- Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, and test teams to validate setups and communicate requirements
- Update DFM guidelines, drive improvement initiatives, and deliver best practices training
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in SMT assembly and PCB manufacturing, including screen printing, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, and AOI
- Expert in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles for electronic assemblies, able to analyze PCB designs and identify improvements for efficient, high-yield production
- Familiar with PCB fabrication constraints and materials, and comfortable reviewing design files (schematics, Gerber/ODB++ data, BOMs) to assess manufacturability
- Solid understanding of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610) and industry best practices for electronics manufacturing
Tool Skills
- Familiar with DFM analysis tools for comprehensive PCB design rule checking and manufacturability analysis
- Experienced in using PCB EDA/CAD to review board layouts and provide DFM/DFA input
- Skilled in standard office and data analysis tools for reporting DFM findings and performing yield/cost analysis.
- Familiarity with PLM/MES systems and Lean Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement
Special Requirements
- Domain expertise in EMS or high-volume electronics production
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings or supplier visits as needed
- Ability to coordinate with global teams across time zones when required
