### The Role
We are seeking a ** Design & Development Engineer** with a solid background in mechanical design and tribological systems to lead the development of plain, bush, and sliding bearing components from concept through industrialisation. This role combines technical design ownership with cross-functional collaboration bridging R&D, NPD, manufacturing, and customer engineering.
You will play a key role in ensuring our bearing products meet stringent performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements while supporting both existing and new product development programmes.

### Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of plain and sliding bearing components (bushes, thrust washers, wear strips, and assemblies).
- Interpret customer performance and application data into robust design concepts and engineering solutions.
- Conduct detailed fit, tolerance, and stack-up analyses with application of GD&T standards.
- Drive material selection, evaluating metals, polymers, and composite bearing materials to meet target tribological and thermal properties.
- Support tribology-related design aspects including surface finishes, coatings, lubrication, and wear prediction.
- Prepare detailed 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and documentation compliant with internal and customer standards.
- Lead engineering change management and design validation activities.
- Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers to optimise product design for production feasibility, cost, and performance.
- Provide direct technical support to customers on design reviews, problem-solving, and field feedback.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on product standardisation, durability optimisation, and performance benchmarking.

### Skills & Technical Expertise
- 48 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
- Practical understanding of plain/sliding bearing systems, tribology, and material behaviour under load, wear, and temperature.
- Experience in **automotive or heavy industrial component development**, ideally within an OEM or Tier 1/Tier 2 environment.
- Strong skills in **tolerance analysis, GD&T, and functional design verification**.
- CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, PTC Creo, or equivalent 3D design software).
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, BOM control, and cross-functional product development processes.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as sintering, bonding, machining, or composite bearing production.

### Standards & Industry Knowledge
- ISO and DIN standards relevant to plain and sliding bearings.
- Dimensional, functional, and durability standards in automotive and industrial bearing design.
- Exposure to stage-gate or APQP-based New Product Development (NPD) frameworks.

### Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (Design or Manufacturing focus preferred).
- At least **4 years of experience** in design and development roles within mechanical or automotive components.
- Demonstrated capability to manage design projects independently with cross-functional inputs.
- Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and commitment to data-driven decision-making.
- Customer-oriented communicator with a proactive, hands-on approach to engineering problem-solving.
