Job Description

Role Overview:

The Deputy Manager Design & Automation will be responsible for designing, standardizing, and automating operational processes across fruit marketplaces and mandis. This role combines layout & process design, automation system development, and on-ground execution to drive efficiency, quality, safety, and scalability across operations.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Layout Design & Operational Planning

  • Design efficient 2D layouts for mandi operations, centralized unloading stations, and sorting/grading lines.
  • Plan resource deployment based on volume flows and throughput targets.
  • Optimize material movement to reduce handling time and operational costs.

2. Process Design, SOPs & Blueprinting

  • Create, document, and update SOPs and process blueprints for key operational activities.
  • Standardize processes across locations with scalable systems and feedback loops.
  • Collaborate with operations and tech teams to ensure process clarity and integrity.
  • Optimize processes to ensure consistent quality of produce.

3. Automation System Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and implement automated machinery and control systems for fruit marketplaces.
  • Prepare system specifications, design documents, and process flow diagrams for automation projects.

4. Programming, Integration & Testing

  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and control systems.
  • Integrate automation systems with existing infrastructure for optimal performance.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and commissioning of automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machinery and automation-related issues.

5. Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and repairs of automation systems.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support for machine-related issues.

6. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain detailed documentation including system diagrams, manuals, and maintenance records.
  • Document system changes, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze existing automation processes to identify efficiency and performance improvements.
  • Implement enhancements to reduce downtime and improve system reliability.

8. Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication

  • Work closely with business, operations, and project teams to deliver effective automation solutions.
  • Communicate technical updates, risks, and progress to stakeholders.

9. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure automation systems comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols to minimize operational risks.


Travel to operational sites to observe, validate, and improve processes.


Qualifications & Experience:

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Automation Engineering, or
  • Diploma in Mechatronics / Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Experience

  • 5- 8+ years of relevant experience in machine automation and control systems
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation projects
