Job Description
Position Overview:
The Property and Engineering Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting property and engineering insurance risks. This role involves assessing the potential risks associated with various property and engineering projects, determining appropriate coverage, terms, and pricing, and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment
- Analyze and evaluate property and engineering risks based on detailed reports, site inspections, and technical data.
- Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and project schedules to identify potential risks and mitigation measures.
- Assess the likelihood and potential impact of various hazards, including natural disasters, mechanical failures, and human errors.
- Underwriting:
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines for property and engineering risks.
- Determine appropriate coverage, terms, and conditions for insurance policies.
- Price insurance policies based on risk assessment, market conditions, and company guidelines.
- Market Interaction:
- Communicate with brokers, agents, and clients to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
- Provide clear explanations of coverage options, terms, and conditions to clients and stakeholders.
- Policy Management:
- Issue and maintain insurance policies, endorsements, and renewals.
- Review and update policy documentation as required.
- Market Research and Development:
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions affecting property and engineering insurance.
- Collaborate with the marketing and sales teams to promote insurance products and services.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work closely with claims, loss control, and other departments to ensure comprehensive risk management.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of underwriting experience, preferably in property and engineering insurance.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in risk assessment tools, Policy issuance system, and data analysis.
- Certifications: Relevant professional certifications like Licenciate, Associate and Fellow from III are highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based position with occasional travel to client sites, project locations, and industry events.
- Full-time position with potential for extended hours during peak periods.
