About the Role

We are seeking a senior Oracle Database Engineer to join our DevOps-oriented database engineering team. This role combines deep Oracle technical expertise with infrastructure-as-code practices and project leadership. You'll be responsible for designing robust Oracle database platforms, prototyping automation, and enabling L2 engineers through clear documentation and guidance.

Youll work with Oracle in traditional and cloud-native forms (CDB/PDB, JSON store, ORDS), and lead automation efforts for deployments and maintenance using Python, Terraform, and Chef.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and document Oracle database solutions across on-prem and cloud environments.

Prototype cluster builds, parameter configurations, patching, and DR procedures.

Drive automation for deployment, backup/restore, replication, and maintenance.

Define and enforce best practices for Oracle licensing and security in hybrid environments.

Lead L2 engineers by providing SOPs, runbooks, and technical mentorship.

Serve as escalation point for Oracle issues requiring deep diagnostics.

Coordinate with clients and internal teams to define requirements and deliver solutions.

Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and SRE teams on cross-functional initiatives.

Core Qualifications

Oracle Technical Expertise:

Strong knowledge of Oracle 19c/21c/23ai architecture and internals.

Experience with Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB), resource management.

Deep understanding of RMAN backup/restore

SQL tuning skills, optimizer behavior, AWR/ASH analysis.

Familiarity with Oracle RAC.

Familiarity with Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) setup and tuning.

AD/Kerberos integration knowledge.

Experience with GoldenGate replication

Familiarity with modern Oracle features like JSON store and document capabilities.

Experience with OCI Autonomous DB and Base DB Services is a plus.

Automation and IaC:

Proficient with Terraform (HCL) for infrastructure provisioning.

Strong Python skills to build reusable automation libraries and scripts.

GitOps practices (CI/CD, GitHub Actions, PR reviews, version control).

Infrastructure & Cloud:

Experience with one of AWS, Azure or OCI cloud is a must.

Understanding of cloud-native database deployments, IAM, secrets, network security.

Familiarity with Oracle licensing impacts on cloud vs. on-prem environments.

Operational Excellence:

Project ownership from design through delivery and L2 handoff.

Strong documentation skills: SOPs, diagrams, runbooks.

Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis under pressure.

Ability to mentor L2 engineers and oversee their execution.
