Senior Database Developer PostgreSQL Expert

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Database Developer & PostgreSQL Expert with 510 years of experience across multiple database systems and strong expertise in PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, and enterprise data architecture.

The role will focus on database modernization, Oracle to PostgreSQL migration, and designing scalable PostgreSQL architectures in cloud environments. The ideal candidate should have deep hands-on experience in query optimization, indexing strategies, and high-performance database systems.

Key Responsibilities

Database Migration & Development

• Lead database migration initiatives from Oracle to PostgreSQL-based platforms.
• Convert and optimize PL/SQL procedures, triggers, and packages into PL/pgSQL.
• Recreate and optimize database objects including schemas, views, constraints, and indexes.
• Design PostgreSQL data architecture including partitioning strategies and indexing plans.
• Build efficient queries and data models for large-scale enterprise applications.

Performance Optimization

• Analyze and optimize query performance using tools such as EXPLAIN ANALYZE and pg_stat_statements.
• Implement advanced indexing strategies including GIN, GiST, and BRIN indexes.
• Perform deep database tuning including:
• Autovacuum configuration
• Buffer cache analysis
• Query planner optimization
• Optimize database workloads for high concurrency and large datasets.

Data Integrity & Validation

• Build scripts for data validation and reconciliation during database migration.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across systems.
• Implement constraint management, row-level security (RLS), and trigger-based validations.
• Manage large-scale datasets including archival and bulk processing.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Work with cloud platforms to deploy and manage PostgreSQL environments.
• Support cloud-native database architectures and scalable data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with engineering and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable database solutions.
• Maintain documentation for database architecture, migration strategies, and optimization frameworks.
• Establish database best practices and performance standards for engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• 810 years of experience in database development and administration.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle databases.
• Hands-on experience with PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL development.
• Proven experience in Oracle to PostgreSQL migration projects.
• Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning.
• Experience with PostgreSQL internals including WAL, vacuum processes, and query planner.
• Experience working with cloud-based database environments.
