Database Architect

Database Architect (8-12+ years)

We are seeking an experienced Database Architect with strong expertise in Azure SQL and open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) to lead database migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design scalable, highly available database architectures on Azure
• Define standards for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, MySQL, and PostgreSQL
• Architect solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity
• Create data models and schemas aligned with application and performance requirements
• Lead database migration initiatives from on-prem or legacy platforms to Azure
• Execute migrations and upgrades involving Azure SQL (DB & Managed Instance) and Azure Database for MySQL / PostgreSQL (OSSDB)
• Plan and implement modernization strategies (re-host, re-platform, re-architect)
• Use Azure migration tools (Azure Database Migration Service, Azure Migrate)
• Ensure minimal downtime, data consistency, and validation during migrations
• Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and workload analysis
• Implement security best practices (encryption, RBAC, auditing, private endpoints)
• Define governance standards for backup, retention, monitoring, and compliance
• Ensure adherence to regulatory and enterprise data standards
• Design and manage replication, failover, and DR strategies
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning
• Support incident analysis and root cause investigations
• Define SLAs, RPOs, and RTOs for critical systems
• Partner with application, cloud, and DevOps teams
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance
• Review database designs, migration plans, and deployment strategies
• Create architecture diagrams, migration runbooks, and documentation

Requirements

• 812+ years of experience in database engineering/architecture
• Strong hands-on expertise with Azure SQL Database & Azure SQL Managed Instance
• MySQL and PostgreSQL (OSSDB)
• Proven experience in database migration and modernization projects
• Strong understanding of data modeling and schema design
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• Backup, recovery, HA, and DR architectures
• Experience with Azure Database Migration Service or similar tools
• Familiarity with cloud networking and security concepts
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Preferred Skills

• Experience with hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and database DevOps
• Knowledge of containerized or microservices-based data architectures
• Experience in FinTech, Healthcare, or regulated environments
