Job Description: Dance Teacher (Department of Student Welfare)

Position: Dance Teacher / Choreographer

Department: Department of Student Welfare (DSW)

Location: Badshahpur Sohna Rd, Gurugram, Sohna Rural, Haryana

Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time (as applicable)


Position Overview

The Department of Student Welfare seeks a dynamic, skilled, and creative Dance Teacher who is proficient in diverse dance forms and well-equipped to handle choreography for both dance-based and drama-based performances. The candidate will be responsible for training students, leading university cultural teams, choreographing stage productions, and contributing to the holistic development of the student community through performing arts.


Key Responsibilities

Training & Mentoring

  • Conduct regular dance training sessions for students across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
  • Mentor students participating in intra-university and inter-university cultural competitions.
  • Provide individual attention to students for enhancing technique, expression, and performance quality.


Choreography (Dance & Drama)

  • Conceptualize and choreograph dance performances for university events, annual fests, orientation programs, and special celebrations.
  • Collaborate with drama/theatre teams to design movement sequences, expressive choreography, and character-based physical routines for stage productions.
  • Create fusion pieces incorporating multiple dance styles as per event requirements.
  • Assist drama directors in integrating dance, rhythm, and expressive movement into theatrical acts.


Event Coordination & Cultural Development

  • Work closely with the Student Council and cultural clubs for performance planning.
  • Lead rehearsals, schedule practice sessions, and manage stage blocking.
  • Assist in costume planning, music selection/editing, prop usage, and performance aesthetics.
  • Support the DSW in organizing workshops, auditions, and cultural outreach programs.


Administrative & Reporting Duties

  • Maintain attendance, practice logs, and performance records.
  • Submit weekly progress updates to the Department of Student Welfare.
  • Coordinate with faculty advisors and event committees for smooth execution of cultural activities.


Required Qualifications & Skills


Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Performing Arts, Dance, or equivalent training from a recognized institution (preferred but not mandatory if professionally trained).


Technical & Artistic Skills

  • Proficiency in at least two major dance forms (Classical, Contemporary, Bollywood, Folk, Hip-hop, etc.).
  • Strong ability in choreography for group and solo performances.
  • Experience in dramatic movement, theatrical choreography, and expressive body language.
  • Music sense, rhythm understanding, and ability to edit/arrange music tracks.


Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse student groups.
  • Strong leadership and time-management capabilities.
  • Creativity, patience, and passion for student development.


Experience

  • Minimum 13 years of teaching or choreography experience in schools, universities, academies, or cultural institutions.
  • Experience in handling stage productions, drama choreography, and cultural events is highly desirable.


Remuneration

  • As per university norms and candidate experience.
