Retail Technology (RT) is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. Be part of the technology leadership team of Wealth Management and Private Banking domain. You will partner with executive stakeholders to design overall tech direction, advise and influence on technologies and complex integration strategies, and AI enablement.

You will oversee the migration of modern tooling, decommission outdated systems, building a scalable, reliable, and secure ecosystem; implement solutions to complex group wide problems, enabling efficiencies and smart automation.

And foster a strong culture of DevSecOps and full-cycle engineering, empowering engineers to design and build thoughtful, creative solutions for our customers.

Impact & contribution:

We are seeking a highly skilled Crew Tech Lead to join our fast-paced team. As a Crew Tech Lead, you’ll be providing expert advice relating to technology, solution design and architecture, people leadership and driving excellence in technical delivery as per group engineering practices and standards. You will bring a perfect blend of people management, technical expertise and will be responsible for shaping the evolution of technical squad through contribution to the technology strategy, quarterly crew memo, prioritize backlog, define delivery roadmap, and determine which problems to invest in solving. 
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop scalable solutions using wide tech stack. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a passion for building robust systems.  

Reporting lines: You will be reporting to the Technology Domain Lead of Wealth & Private.

You will be managing a team of Engineering Managers, full stack engineers and data engineers.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Build, lead, and inspire an engaged team of engineers while also fostering an engineering culture of excellence.

• Contribute to the Bank’s Engineering Management Practice by coaching and mentoring engineers and raising the bar for the discipline across the organization.

• Communicate effectively engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.

• Promote open communication and creates a safe working environment where our engineers’ voices are heard to achieve great outcomes for our organisation, our customers, and the community.

• Can drive operational excellence and supports teams in charge of mission-critical production services with diverse stakeholders and complex dependencies.

• Encourage risk-taking and constructive challenge while growing diverse and inclusive teams and establish new ways of working, successfully advocated for new technology approaches, with the experience to understand the architectural integration of new software solutions.

Essential Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;

• Extensive experience in enterprise-level engineering and have a proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams

• Language orientation: Experience on C#, .NET Framework Core, REST APIs, Microservices and containerisation. Node, Python and scripting knowledge useful

• Soft skills: Excellent communication skills. Working experience with Agile methodologies.

• Cloud: Experience on cloud migrations and deployment, preferably in AWS.

• CI/CD: expertise with usage and configuration of fully automated pipelines is useful. This includes GitHub Actions, Artifactory and Azure DevOps. 

• DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps-managed environments. Specifically, around observability tools (Splunk, Grafana, Promethius, PagerDuty)

Education Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering in Computer Science / Information Technology.
