The Role
Position: Crew Data Analyst
Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time
Reporting to: Director of Crewing - London
Location: Mumbai, India - Office based 5 days per week
Overview of role
As Crew Data Analyst you will be at the centre of the team ensuring we have consistent, accurate and complete data and management information from the crew information systems across our fleet. You will work closely with the various teams globally to create business drivers that will enable the various teams to identify trends and proactively take action to achieve increased efficiency across the globe. You will ensure that the production of Crew Management information meets the business needs by understanding business. The right candidate brings a wealth of knowledge with crew data analytics, where you have proven experience in utilising data to drive business performance.
Key responsibilities and primary deliverables
Reporting & Analysis
- Deliver accurate monthly report both on cost and core performance metrics as agreed in the business.
- Support month-end closing activities ensuring that all high-impact costs are recorded in the appropriate period thru coordination with Finance and if need be, share accrual overview for the posting.
- Primary responsible for managing the budgeting for crew-related expenses and Manning Office Expenses.
- Based on knowledge of cost and crew metrics be able to analyse the data and report on initial trends, supporting the business where required to dig deeper into the data to understand developments.
- Develop a robust and consistent review of benchmarking sharing develops and analysis on cost, benefits and welfare parameters.
- Creation, provision, and ongoing development of management dashboarding packs to ensure readily digestible management information that adds value to the business.
Problem solving:
- Proactively and independently uses a variety of tools and methods to identify, analyse and understand the areas of improvement and discussing with colleagues accordingly.
- Supports in solving problems, making recommendations, and applying own subject matter expert knowledge.
- Takes ownership of agreed solutions and puts these into practice in line with expectations, following through to completion.
- Supports performance discussions by demonstrating awareness of risks and opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
- Continually engage with stakeholders independently to revise reporting usability and to identify improvements for all stakeholders.
- Develop a robust suite of management reporting that will support the business in continually achieving excellence and efficiency in crew management.
- Drive for automation/digitalization of existing reports and reports that will be required in the future.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing Management Information to ensure it continues to meet business needs.
- Work with our IT to identify system developments and initiatives that will improve the accuracy and automation of reporting for end users.
Stakeholder engagement
- Excellent skills in presenting the findings to the business and ability to work with the business to identify specific actions to drive improved performance.
- Support end users in the provision of self-service reporting and dashboarding, working with them to ensure ongoing development and training is in place.
- Be an active participant with regards to upcoming crew system implementation and data opportunities and impact.
IT profile
- Strong knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Applications.
- Knowledge of dashboarding approaches and best practice.
- Enhanced reporting tools (e.g. Cognos, Business Objects, Power BI).
- Eagerness to learn and adapt where AI can support future analytics.

Relevant experience & education
- Strong academic record and relevant qualifications in relation to business analytics.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a shore-based position, preferably with in the shipping industry with crew data.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and maintain a strong relationship across the business units and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience with high level analytical skills, strategic forward thinking with sound reasoning and judgement.
