Credit Underwriter – NBFC Background

We are looking for an experienced Credit Underwriter with strong exposure to NBFC lending operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing creditworthiness, evaluating financial risk, and ensuring high-quality portfolio performance across retail or MSME loan products.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate loan applications by analyzing financial statements, income documents, banking data, bureau reports, GST records, and other risk indicators.
• Conduct detailed credit assessments, including borrower profiling, cash flow review, and repayment capacity analysis.
• Recommend approvals, modifications, or rejections based on risk assessment and internal policy guidelines.
• Ensure underwriting decisions comply with NBFC credit policies, RBI guidelines, and risk frameworks.
• Work closely with sales, operations, and risk teams to ensure seamless processing and TAT adherence.
• Identify early warning signals and ensure continuous improvement in credit quality.
• Maintain documentation, credit memos, and approval records with 100% accuracy.
• Contribute to policy updates, risk scoring models, and process improvements.
• Support audits, compliance checks, and portfolio reviews.
• Handle customer supportrelated activities and assist with operational tasks as required, including coordination with internal teams and addressing customer queries during the credit and post-disbursement process.

Requirements

• 26 years of experience in credit underwriting within an NBFC, fintech, or BFSI setup.
• Strong understanding of retail/MSME lending, credit bureau analysis, and risk assessment.
• Ability to analyze financial documents, cash flows, bank statements, and business stability.
• Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (RBI/NBFC frameworks).
• Proficiency in MS Excel and basic analytics tools.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and documentation skills.
