Job Description

Job Purpose

The Composite Quality Lead ensures product quality and process compliance in composite manufacturing (CFRP/GFRP/FRP) by leading inspection activities, controlling quality documentation, driving corrective actions, and supporting audits to meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.

2) Key Responsibilities

Incoming Quality:

  • Inspect incoming raw materials (prepreg/resin/fabric/core/adhesive) for CoA, batch traceability, and shelf life.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling (temperature/humidity, thawing, and pot life control).

In-Process Quality:

  • Monitor key stages: layup, ply orientation, vacuum bagging, curing (autoclave/oven), bonding, trimming/machining.
  • Verify process records: vacuum logs, cure cycle graphs, pressure/temperature data.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, work instructions, and process parameters.

Final Quality:

  • Lead final inspection including visual inspection, dimensional inspection (gauges/CMM), and coordinate NDT (UT/tap test) if required.
  • Ensure compliance to drawing, route cards and acceptance criteria.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions

  • Raise and manage NCR, segregation, and disposition.
  • Perform root cause analysis using 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D.
  • Implement and track CAPA actions with effectiveness checks.

Documentation & System Compliance

  • Maintain quality documents: Control Plan, PFMEA, Inspection Plan, Test Reports, COC/FAI pack.
  • Support internal/customer audits and customer complaint closure.

Team & Coordination

  • Lead and guide QC inspectors and provide training on composite defects, inspection methods, and documentation discipline.
  • Coordinate with production/engineering for issue resolution and process improvement.

3) Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of composite processes: layup, vacuum bagging, curing, bonding, machining.
  • Understanding of defects: voids, delamination, wrinkles, porosity, resin-rich/lean.
  • Drawing reading and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); dimensional inspection knowledge.
  • Quality tools: 8D, CAPA, SPC basics, MSA awareness.
  • Good communication, leadership, problem-solving, and customer focus.

4) Qualification & Experience

  • Diploma / BE / BTech in Mechanical / Aerospace / Materials / Polymer (preferred).
  • 510 years experience in composite manufacturing quality (as applicable).
