Commissioning Manager - Data Centre

Our Client are currently looking for a Commissioning Manager / Lead (Data Centre) - expat assignment in India

Duration: 1-3 years

Location: based on site in India; Mumbai or Hyderabad

Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Rotation : 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off

Start date: spring 2026

10+ years in MEP delivery with 5+ years data centre commissioning leadership

Role purpose

Lead the end-to-end commissioning programme for a hyperscale/enterprise datacentre in India, ensuring MEP systems are commissioned safely, compliantly, on schedule, and to performance requirements (e.g., Tier objectives / client reliability targets). Own the integrated commissioning strategy across design, construction, vendor delivery, testing, IST, and handover to Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Commissioning Plan, schedule, phase gates, and deliverables aligned to project milestones.
• Manage commissioning across Electrical (LV/MV), Mechanical (chillers/CRAHS, cooling towers, pumps), Controls/BMS/EPMS/SCADA, Life Safety/Fire, Security, and ICT interfaces.
• Lead risk management: method statements, energized works protocols, LOTO, PTW, switching plans, and safe testing.
• Own commissioning readiness: design review, constructability, FAT/SAT plans, spares strategy, O&M documentation, training readiness.
• Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST), performance testing, redundancy proving, and scenario testing.
• Drive issue management: punch lists, defect closure, NCR resolution, technical queries, change control impacts to commissioning.
• Manage commissioning contractors, OEMs, and third parties; ensure consistent standards, procedures, and recordkeeping.
• Create handover packages: test sheets, as-builts, commissioning dossiers, asset registers, and operational acceptance.
• Stakeholder management across client/operator, EPC/GC, local authorities, and site leadership.

Success measures (typical KPIs)

• Zero harm / strong safety leadership during energized works
• Commissioning milestones met; IST pass first-time rate
• Documentation completeness; clean handover with minimal carry-over defects
• System performance meets design intent (capacity, redundancy, control stability)

Required experience & qualifications

• 10+ years in MEP delivery with 5+ years data centre commissioning leadership
• Proven experience in ex-pat / international projects and multi-cultural teams
• Strong knowledge of critical infrastructure (UPS, generators, MV switching, chillers, controls integration)
• Engineering degree (Mechanical/Electrical) preferred
• Formal safety training (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent) beneficial
