Job Profile Senior FinOps Engineer
Profile Summary
We are seeking a Senior FinOps Engineer with 58 years of experience in cloud cost management, financial governance, and optimization, with strong hands-on expertise in AWS cost tooling and service-level cost analysis.
The candidate must be capable of daily cloud cost monitoring, deep-dive analysis to identify cost deviations, and driving optimization initiatives in close collaboration with Engineering and DevOps teams.
The role requires strong experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), reservations and Savings Plans, forecasting, tagging governance, and dashboarding for cost anomaly detection at application and customer level. Exposure to multi-cloud cost management is desirable, but AWS is the primary focus.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily analysis of AWS cloud spend and identify cost increases, anomalies, and deviations. Drill down costs to multiple levels (service, account, resource, tag, application, customer).
- Identify root causes of cost spikes and classify them as temporary or recurring, ensuring timely follow-up and closure.
- Drive cloud cost optimization initiatives across compute, storage, networking, databases, and managed services. Work closely with Engineering and DevOps teams to plan and implement cost-efficient architectures.
- Build detailed reports using AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR) data. Create and maintain visual dashboards for cost trends and anomaly detection at application/customer level.
- Track, manage, and optimize Reserved Instances (RIs) and Savings Plans, including utilization and coverage. Forecast cloud spend based on AOP, monthly commitments, growth plans, and engineering roadmaps. Identify commitment shortfalls or over-commitment risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure correct tagging standards and drive initiatives to achieve and sustain 100% tagging compliance. Analyze monthly invoices against usage and engage with cloud providers in case of discrepancies.
- Manage AWS Marketplace costs, including private offers and contract optimization. Track and optimize costs of third-party tools, SaaS platforms, and licenses, including vendor negotiations.
Required Experience & Skills
- 58 years of experience in FinOps / Cloud Financial Management / Cloud Cost Optimization roles. Strong hands-on experience with AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Cost & Usage Reports (CUR).
- Deep understanding of AWS services and their cost drivers, including: EC2, EKS/ECS RDS, DynamoDB S3, EBS CloudFront, ALB/NLB Data transfer and networking costs. Proven experience managing Reserved Instances and Savings Plans. Ability to build cost reports using CUR data with SQL/Athena or BI tools.
- Experience creating dashboards and visualizations for cost analysis and anomaly detection. Strong collaboration skills to work with DevOps, Engineering, and Finance teams.
- Solid understanding of cloud tagging strategies and governance models.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Good to Have Multi-cloud cost management exposure (OCI and/or GCP). Experience with FinOps tools such as CloudHealth, Apptio, Kubecost, or similar. FinOps Foundation certification (Practitioner or Professional). Experience working in DevOps-heavy, multi-tenant, or SaaS environments
