Job Description
The Cinematographer is responsible for creating the visual look and feel of all video and film productions. This role involves translating creative concepts into visually compelling stories through expert use of lighting, camera techniques, composition, and equipment. The role also requires involvement across pre-production, production, and post-production stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the director, producers, and creative team to understand the script, concept, and overall visual style.
- Contribute to script development and visual storytelling, offering creative inputs to enhance narrative impact.
- Plan and execute shot compositions, camera angles, movements, and visual continuity for each scene.
- Lead and manage the camera and production team, ensuring smooth coordination during shoots.
- Set up, manage, and supervise lighting to achieve the desired mood, tone, and aesthetic.
- Select appropriate cameras, lenses, lighting, and related equipment based on project requirements.
- Ensure proper framing, exposure, color balance, and visual consistency throughout production.
- Conduct location recces and determine technical and logistical requirements for shoots.
- Direct lighting technicians, gaffers, grips, and assistants during production.
- Oversee and guide the editing process, ensuring the final output aligns with the creative vision and brand standards.
- Work closely with editors and post-production teams on color correction, grading, and final delivery.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to cameras, lighting, or other equipment.
- Maintain, manage, and organize all equipment before and after shoots.
- Ensure adherence to production timelines, quality standards, and project deadlines.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven 47 years of experience as a Cinematographer or Director of Photography.
- Strong understanding of camera systems, lenses, lighting equipment, and rigging techniques.
- Working knowledge of video editing and post-production workflows (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.).
- Excellent eye for framing, composition, lighting, and basic color grading.
- Ability to interpret creative briefs and convert ideas into impactful visuals.
- Strong team leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to changing production needs.
- Knowledge of drones, gimbals, and advanced cinematography tools is an added advantage.
Preferred Background:
- Diploma or Degree in Film, Media, Cinematography, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
- Strong portfolio or showreel showcasing previous cinematography and visual storytelling work.
