Chronograph SME

The Chronograph Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the primary owner of the Chronograph platform within the organisation. This role is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of private markets portfolio data management from data ingestion and validation to performance analytics, reconciliation reporting, and downstream delivery. The SME ensures the integrity and accuracy of all portfolio data within Chronograph, drives process optimisation and automation, and serves as the internal expert for all Chronograph workflows, integrations, and data governance requirements. The role works closely with portfolio analytics, investor relations, operations, and technology teams to deliver timely and accurate investment reporting at scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio Data Ingestion & Management

• Oversee the ingestion of investment data from GP portals, fund administrators, data aggregators, and internal systems into the Chronograph platform
• Configure and maintain data ingestion pipelines for capital contributions, distributions, NAV statements, quarterly financial reports, operating metrics, and commitment schedules
• Monitor data feed health, ingestion success rates, and failure alerts on a daily basis to ensure continuous and accurate data flow
• Manage data source configurations and mapping rules to accommodate new fund structures, GP reporting formats, and data format changes
• Coordinate with GPs and fund administrators to resolve data delivery issues, missing documents, or reporting discrepancies

2. Data Validation & Quality Control

• Supervise data validation processes for investment data fields including contributions, distributions, NAV movements, TVPI, IRR, DPI, and operating metrics
• Define and maintain validation rules and tolerance thresholds for each data type, fund, and asset class within Chronograph
• Perform cross-period validation checks to detect anomalies, restatements, or data inconsistencies across reporting periods
• Identify and resolve data quality issues including incorrect mappings, OCR errors from document extraction, and misclassified transactions
• Maintain data quality logs and generate periodic accuracy scorecards to track validation performance across the portfolio

3. Performance Analytics & Reporting

• Produce and review portfolio performance reports including IRR, MOIC, TVPI, DPI, RVPI, and PME calculations at fund, vintage, and asset class levels
• Manage the generation of quarterly investor reports, capital account statements, and performance attribution analyses through Chronograph
• Ensure reporting outputs are accurate, consistent, and aligned with ILPA, GIPS, and internal reporting standards
• Support investor relations and portfolio management teams with ad-hoc performance analytics and data extracts
• Develop and maintain reusable report templates and dashboard configurations within Chronograph for recurring reporting requirements

4. Database Connectivity & System Integration

• Configure and manage Chronographs integration with downstream data warehouses, portfolio management systems, and reporting platforms (SQL Server, Snowflake, or equivalent)
• Develop and maintain data pipeline mappings between Chronograph fields and target system schemas across connected platforms
• Monitor data delivery workflows to ensure timely and accurate transfer of portfolio data to analytics, accounting, and reporting systems
• Troubleshoot integration failures, API errors, schema mismatches, and data sync issues between Chronograph and connected platforms
• Work with technology teams to maintain and enhance integration configurations as system architectures evolve

5. Reconciliation & Exception Management

• Generate and review reconciliation reports comparing Chronograph portfolio data against fund accounting records, custodian statements, and GP-reported figures
• Perform position-level reconciliation of capital contributions, distributions, NAV balances, and unfunded commitments across the fund portfolio
• Produce exception reports highlighting discrepancies between GP-reported data, fund administrator records, and internally held investment data
• Manage the end-to-end exception workflow identify, triage, investigate, and resolve data failures or reporting discrepancies
• Maintain an exception log with root cause analysis and corrective action documentation, and track resolution within agreed SLA windows

6. Process Automation & Optimisation

• Identify manual touchpoints in the portfolio data operations workflow and design automation solutions using Chronographs workflow and rules engine
• Build automated validation rules, data enrichment workflows, and exception flagging logic to reduce manual processing effort
• Develop reusable data templates for recurring GP and fund administrator reporting formats to accelerate new fund onboardings
• Propose and implement workflow improvements to increase straight-through processing (STP) rates and reduce data latency
• Track and report on automation efficiency metrics including STP rate, manual intervention rate, data processing time, and exception volume

7. Fund Onboarding & Platform Administration

• Lead onboarding of new funds, GPs, and investment structures onto the Chronograph platform including data mapping, template configuration, and delivery rule setup
• Configure fund profiles, asset class hierarchies, data field mappings, performance calculation methodologies, and reporting templates for each mandate
• Maintain platform user access, role-based permissions, and audit logs in compliance with information security and data governance policies
• Act as primary liaison with the Chronograph vendor for platform updates, feature releases, new module implementations, and technical support
• Manage platform change management processes including testing, documentation, and communication for new releases or configuration changes

8. Stakeholder Collaboration & Training

• Act as the internal Chronograph SME for portfolio analytics, investor relations, operations, finance, and compliance teams
• Provide training and onboarding support for new users of the Chronograph platform across investment and operations functions
• Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all Chronograph workflows and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base
• Participate in cross-functional projects involving data modernisation, reporting automation, and investment technology upgrades
• Contribute to data governance initiatives by defining data standards, lineage requirements, and quality controls for private markets data
