Our Client: Our client is a venture-backed financial technology company revolutionizing how India saves, invests, and accesses credit through its most trusted asset-Gold.


Title: Business Finance Manager

Base Location: Gurgaon

Education: CA, 1st attempt only

Experience: 4+ years

Working type: 6 days WFO role


About the Role: The Business Finance Manager owns operating finance for the business and acts as a thought partner to business, sales, credit, and operations teams. The role focuses on translating financial and operating data into clear insights that drive profitability, cost discipline, and better decision-making. Success in this role is defined by stronger unit economics, tighter cost controls, and leadership teams actually using finance dashboards to run the business.


Key Responsibilities:

1) Business & Operating MIS:

Build and run weekly and monthly business dashboards covering disbursals, AUM, yield, cost of funds, NIM, credit cost, DPD buckets, roll rates, collection efficiency, productivity per RM/branch/city, and opex ratios such as opex per AUM and cost per disbursal. Own metric definitions, data consistency, and reconciliation across sources. Perform variance analysis versus plan and prior periods with clear root-cause explanations. Ensure MIS is embedded into business reviews and decision forums rather than being a reporting-only exercise.

2) Unit Economics & Profitability:

Develop and maintain channel-wise and product-wise contribution margin views, including BC and DSA channels. Build branch, city, and cohort-level profitability views. Analyze cost-to-serve across sourcing, operations, and collections. Support pricing, incentive design, and policy decisions with strong unit economics logic. Proactively highlight margin leakage and inefficiencies before they impact overall profitability.

3) Cost Management & Control:

Track and analyze fixed and variable costs with a business lens. Deep dive into high-impact cost heads such as travel, field expenses, vendor costs, and incentives. Partner with business and operations teams to design cost guardrails, caps, and productivity-linked frameworks. Flag cost overruns early and recommend corrective actions.

4) Credit & Collections Finance Partnership:

Work closely with credit and collections teams to monitor roll rates, cure rates, bounce rates, auction pipelines, and recoveries. Support finance inputs into provisioning logic and expected credit loss concepts. Help evaluate the economics of collection strategies and ensure incentives are aligned to prevent leakage or gaming. Translate portfolio quality trends into clear financial impact for leadership.

5) Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting:

Support annual operating plans and rolling forecasts. Track monthly forecast versus actuals and provide clear commentary. Assist in scenario modeling for growth versus profitability trade-offs, pricing changes, and policy shifts. Provide analytical inputs into cash flow and liquidity planning led by the CFO.

6) Stakeholder & Leadership Support:

Act as a finance partner to business leaders across sales, operations, and credit. Prepare crisp, founder-friendly review decks and decision notes. Support the CFO with board packs, investor and lender data requests, and diligence readiness through strong data hygiene and reconciliations.


Success Metrics:

Within 6 to 9 months, leadership should have a trusted weekly operating dashboard, clear visibility into channel and city-level profitability, measurable improvement in cost efficiency or productivity metrics, faster decision-making with fewer data debates, and no surprises on costs, incentives, or margin leakage.


Requirement:

  • Candidate with minimum 5 to 9 years of experience in business finance, FP&A, or commercial finance.
  • Preferably within lending, NBFC, fintech, banking, or high-velocity operational environments.
  • Strong exposure to operating metrics and partnering with business teams is essential.
  • Strong understanding of P&L drivers and unit economics.
  • Comfortable working with imperfect data and imposing structure.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills with dashboarding experience.
  • Ability to explain numbers clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • High ownership mindset with the ability to anticipate problems and drive solutions.
