Job Description

Job Brief:

We are looking for a capable candidate for the position of College/Career Counsellor. The role will be responsible for helping students articulate their academic achievements, develop their portfolios, ensure career readiness, and build personal and social competencies through a comprehensive counselling program.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive, long-term career counselling program and calendar.
  • Provide early interventions in facilitating students career choices and decisions.
  • Lead a small team of counsellors to implement and facilitate the career counselling program.
  • Provide maximum exposure to students by building Marquee University and industry interfaces.
  • Build a system to provide personalized and individual counselling; value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students.
  • Ensure equitable access to opportunities for all students.
  • Provide direct support services through structured conventions.
  • Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform assessments, interpret tests, and study student records.
  • Gather and analyze data to measure results.
  • Develop structured reporting mechanisms for all stakeholders.
  • Arrange college visits and trips to local college fairs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with admission professionals.
  • Check and distribute documents and correspondence.
  • Compile records of office activities and maintain a database system; update mailing lists and contact lists.
  • Educate families about college admissions and financial aid or scholarship possibilities.
  • Educate students on interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques.
  • Guide students and parents/guardians through the college admissions and application process.
  • Handle incoming inquiries and prepare written responses to routine requests.
  • Meet individually with students and parents to explore and identify appropriate college options; communicate regularly with counselees.
  • Monitor individual student progress throughout the college application process.
  • Participate in events sponsored by the College Counselling Office, including evening college fairs, workshops, college trips, and the Spring College Visit trip.
  • Prepare and edit documents; check and enter data; prepare and send mailings and packages.
  • Prepare supplementary materials for colleges and oversee the submission of school credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation).
  • Review files and records to respond to general information requests.
  • Serve as a resource for students, parents, and faculty regarding admission criteria and college data.
  • Share financial aid and scholarship information in a timely manner with students and families.
  • Understand the college admission process across various institution types and selectivity levels.
  • Work with faculty to integrate college-related skills (essay writing, interviewing, etc.) into curricula.
  • Work with the Test Prep Coordinator to provide information about testing options and preparatory classes.
  • Write detailed school recommendation letters for members of the senior class.


Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of counselling models, practices, and resources.
  • Highly data-driven with strong analytical skills.
  • Tech-savvy with excellent knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Sound judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Masters degree in School Counselling.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based computers, internet, email, and typing.
  • Knowledge of relevant applications including MS Office; Naviance is a plus.
  • Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) from an accredited college/university.
