Role Overview

The CA Semi-Qualified - Assessment Team will be part of the Assessment and Litigation Team, responsible for handling income tax notices, assessment proceedings, and supporting litigation matters. The role involves drafting replies, coordinating with clients and tax authorities, maintaining documentation, and assisting seniors and Partners in representing clients before departments and appellate authorities.

This role is ideal for professionals who want to build deep expertise in tax assessments and litigation and are comfortable with technical analysis, drafting, and statutory timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Notice Handling

• Review and analyse notices received under the Income-tax Act (scrutiny, reassessment, rectification, show cause, etc.)
• Draft replies to notices, questionnaires, and assessment communications
• Prepare factual explanations and legal submissions for assessment proceedings
• Ensure timely filing of replies and compliances within statutory deadlines
• Track assessment proceedings and maintain status updates for each case

Client Coordination

• Communicate with clients to collect explanations, documents, and supporting information
• Explain assessment requirements and information sought by the department to clients
• Follow up with clients to ensure timely receipt of data and documents

Departmental Coordination

• Assist in handling online and physical assessment hearings, as applicable
• Coordinate with tax authorities for submissions, clarifications, and adjournments
• Maintain proper records of departmental communications and filings

Litigation & Appeals Support

• Assist in preparation of appeal-related documents (CIT(A), ITAT, etc.)
• Compile paper books, statements of facts, and supporting documents
• Assist in drafting grounds of appeal and written submissions
• Conduct basic research on provisions, circulars, and judicial precedents
• Support seniors and Partners in litigation strategy and case preparation

Documentation & Process Management

• Maintain organised assessment and litigation files for each client
• Prepare internal case notes summarising issues, positions taken, and risks
• Update trackers for notices, assessments, appeals, and litigation matters
• Assist in improving internal processes and SOPs for assessment and litigation work

Internal Coordination

• Coordinate with audit, compliance, and accounts teams for required data
• Escalate critical issues, high-risk matters, or deadlines to seniors promptly
• Participate in internal technical discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions

Eligibility & Requirements

• Semi-qualified CA
• Prior exposure to income tax assessments, notices, or litigation work preferred
• Working knowledge of the Income-tax Act and assessment procedures
• Strong drafting and written communication skills
• Ability to analyse facts and present structured responses
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple timelines
