We are inviting applications from accomplished senior leaders in the General Insurance industry to take on a Business Head / Vertical Head General Insurance with pan-India responsibility.

This is a full P&L ownership mandate for a leader who has built, scaled, and governed large General Insurance businesses across Motor, Health, and multi-channel distribution ecosystems. The role offers a unique opportunity to define strategy, drive profitable growth, build strong leadership and shape a future-ready GI business in a highly regulated and competitive landscape.


The position calls for a seasoned GI professional with deep exposure to agency, bancassurance, corporate, digital, broker and alliance-led distribution models, strong insurer and ecosystem relationships, and a proven track record of scaling businesses with accountability.

Role Overview

The Business Head / Vertical Head General Insurance will have full ownership of the General Insurance business, including strategy, revenue, profitability, distribution, partnerships, and execution. The role is responsible for building a scalable, compliant, and profitable GI business across all channels with complete P&L accountability. This position requires a seasoned leader who can define vision, build strong distribution engines, manage senior stakeholders, and drive sustainable growth in a highly regulated and competitive environment.


Key Responsibilities

Business Strategy & P&L Ownership

  • Define and execute the overall vision, growth strategy, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for the General Insurance business
  • Own end-to-end P&L, including revenue, margins, cost structures, and profitability
  • Design and execute multi-year growth strategy across portfolios (Motor, Health, etc.), ensuring balanced product and channel mix
  • Champion new business initiatives (new products, new geographies, new verticals like embedded insurance) and scale them to mature businesses


Distribution & Sales Leadership

  • Build, scale, and optimize multi-channel distribution, including:
  • POSP / Agency
  • Bancassurance
  • Corporate & Group Insurance
  • Digital / Online & InsurTech Partnerships
  • Brokers, OEMs, Affinity & Strategic Alliances
  • Direct / Field Sales
  • Lead zonal/regional sales leaders and business heads, driving target setting, performance management, productivity improvement, and capability building for large, distributed teams
  • Set channel-wise strategy, targets, governance, and incentive frameworks
  • Drive cross-sell, upsell, renewals, and persistency across Motor, Health, and other GI products

Leadership & Organization Building

  • Build and lead a strong senior leadership team (Sales, Operations, Underwriting coordination, Renewals, Compliance, etc.)
  • Drive partner lifecycle management: acquisition, onboarding, training, engagement, loyalty programs, and retention for large agent/POSP and B2B partner networks
  • Establish a performance-driven culture with clear KPIs, governance, and accountability
  • Drive leadership reviews, succession planning, and talent development

Partnerships, Alliances & Ecosystem

  • Lead strategic partnerships with insurers, banks, NBFCs, brokers, OEMs, digital platforms, and corporate clients
  • Drive partner lifecycle management across large agent/POSP and B2B networks
  • Negotiate and manage long-term commercial agreements and distribution alliances
  • Represent the organization with board members, regulators, insurers, and key external stakeholders


Operations, Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure strong adherence to IRDAI regulations, internal controls, audits, and risk management frameworks
  • Ensure robust governance, compliance, and reporting aligned with IRDAI regulations and internal risk frameworks
  • Work closely with Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams to ensure regulatory alignment
  • Oversee MIS, dashboards, and leadership-level reporting


Customer, Brand & Market Expansion

  • Drive superior customer experience, renewals, and retention
  • Expand presence across new geographies, segments, and product lines
  • Build strong brand credibility in the General Insurance ecosystem


Educational Qualification

  • MBA / PGDM in Management, Finance, Sales, or Marketing from a reputed institute
  • Graduation in any discipline
  • Insurance-related certifications (IRDAI, AIII, III or equivalent) preferred


Experience Required

  • 1525+ years of experience in the General Insurance industry
  • Prior experience as Business Head / Vertical Head / P&L Leader
  • Proven track record of building and scaling multi-channel GI businesses
  • Strong exposure to Motor and Health Insurance with deep retail GI understanding
  • Experience managing large, geographically dispersed teams
  • Comfort working in high-growth, entrepreneurial environments
  • Exposure to digital distribution, CRM, sales automation, and data-driven decision-making
  • Strong exposure to pan-India operations and large leadership teams
