Key Responsibilities
Weekly P&L and Business Visibility
- Own the preparation and publishing of a weekly business finance flash report that provides leadership with a clear and timely view of the companys financial performance.
- Track and analyze gross revenue, net revenue, collections, refunds, COGS, gross margin, contribution margin, ad spend, payroll, incentives, and burn on a regular basis.
- Build structured reporting that allows leadership to understand whether the business is profitable, where margins are improving, and where financial leakages are taking place.
- Ensure that the financial performance of the business is visible on a weekly basis rather than only after month-end closure.
Business Finance
- Work directly with the founder and business leaders to provide financial insight on major business decisions across growth, sales, pricing, incentives, and investments..
- Translate business and operating data into practical recommendations that leadership can use to make faster and better decisions.
Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
- Own the budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting process across functions and ensure that actual performance is tracked against clear financial plans.
- Build and maintain driver-based financial models that capture revenue growth, cost behavior, margins, and cash implications under different scenarios.
- Lead budget versus actual analysis and explain major variances in a way that enables corrective action from business teams.
- Support the annual operating plan and quarterly planning process by providing accurate forecasts and practical business assumptions.
Profitability, Unit Economics, and Growth Analysis
- Build a strong understanding of profitability across acquisition channels, customer segments, pricing plans, business lines, and growth motions.
- Evaluate paid growth efficiency by tracking CAC, payback periods, contribution margin, return on ad spend, and other key unit economics metrics.
Cross-Functional Financial Truth Layer
- Work across finance, sales, marketing, operations, and other teams to build a single trusted view of business performance.
- Reconcile numbers across multiple systems such as CRM, billing, finance records, marketing dashboards, collections data, and payroll inputs.
- Define clear reporting standards and metric definitions so that all teams are aligned on the same business numbers.
- Improve reporting accuracy and consistency by identifying mismatches, gaps, and process weaknesses in the way data is currently captured and reported.
Financial Discipline and Control
- Identify areas where the business is overspending, underperforming, or operating with poor contribution margins, and raise these issues early.
- Support the creation of stronger financial discipline across the company by helping set review mechanisms, spend controls, and decision thresholds.
- Ensure that variable costs, marketing spends, sales incentives, and team-level costs are tracked with enough detail to support informed decisions.
- Work closely with the accounts and finance operations teams to validate the quality and completeness of underlying financial inputs.
Skills and Qualifications
Must Have
- The candidate should have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in Business Finance, FP&A, or Commercial Finance roles.
- The candidate should have worked in a startup, SaaS, internet, fintech, D2C, marketplace, or another high-growth business environment.
- The candidate should have a strong understanding of P&L reporting, business performance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and cash visibility.
- The candidate should be highly proficient in Excel or Google Sheets and should be able to build financial models independently.
- The candidate should be comfortable working with large, messy, and multi-source datasets and converting them into decision-useful analysis.
- The candidate should have strong communication skills and should be able to work directly with founders, leaders, and cross-functional business teams.
- The candidate should have the maturity to challenge assumptions, push back with numbers, and operate with high ownership in a fast-paced startup environment.
Good to Have
- The candidate has prior experience in a B2B SaaS or subscription-led business model.
- The candidate has worked on businesses that combine self-serve growth, sales-led growth, and paid acquisition.
- The candidate is familiar with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or similar reporting and analytics tools.
- The candidate holds a CA, MBA, CFA, or equivalent qualification, although strong operating experience will be valued more than credentials alone.
