Job Description

BESS Systems Integration Engineer

We are looking for a System Integration Engineer BESS responsible for integrating battery

systems, PCS, EMS, BMS, protection systems, and grid interface into a fully functional

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The role involves technical coordination between battery OEMs, PCS vendors, EPC teams,

SCADA teams, and utilities to ensure seamless system performance from design to

commissioning.

Core responsibilities :

1. System Architecture & Integration

Develop complete BESS system architecture including Battery racks / containers, Power Conversion System (PCS), Transformers & switchgear, Protection & metering, EMS & SCADA

Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Control architecture diagrams, Communication network layouts

Define interface matrix between subsystems.

2. Battery & BMS Integration

Interface with battery suppliers (LFP systems).

Validate DC voltage window, Current limits & C-rate compatibility, BMS communication (CAN / Modbus TCP / Ethernet)

Integrate master-slave BMS topology.

Ensure correct alarm & protection coordination between BMS and PCS.

3. PCS & Inverter Integration

Work with PCS vendors and integrate the communication protocol with BMS

Configure Grid-following / grid-forming modes, Reactive power control, Frequency response settings

Validate inverter protection & grid code compliance.

4. Electrical System Integration

Coordinate Transformer sizing, HV/LV switchgear integration, Cable selection & termination

Support Protection coordination studies, short circuit & load flow analysis

Ensure IEC / IEEE compliance.

5. EMS & SCADA Integration

Integrate Energy Management System (EMS) with PCS, BMS, Utility metering

Configure Charge/discharge scheduling, Peak shaving, Backup mode, Arbitrage logic

Validate real-time monitoring & remote communication.

6. Installation & Commissioning

Support on-site integration and testing Insulation resistance testing, Communication

verification, Protection relay testing, Functional performance tests

Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), Grid

synchronization

Troubleshoot integration issues during commissioning.

7. System Performance Validation

Analyse Round-trip efficiency, Voltage sag behaviour, Thermal limits, Harmonic

performance

Optimize control parameters post-commissioning.

Support warranty performance monitoring.

8. Cross-Functional Coordination

Work with:

o Mechanical team (thermal & enclosure integration)

o Firmware team (BMS logic updates)

o Procurement team (Component selection, tech specs)

o Utility / DISCOM approvals

Support technical proposals for new projects.

Required Qualifications

B.E / B.Tech in Electrical / Power Electronics / Energy Engineering

3-5 years experience in BESS / Solar + Storage / Power electronics systems

Strong understanding of Battery pack architecture, PCS systems, LV/HV systems (up

to 33 kV preferred)

Familiarity with ETAP / PSCAD / Dig SILENT, AutoCAD
