Role: Battery Design Engineer- Electrical Components
Location: IBC Knowledge Park, Bengaluru
Reporting to: Lead -Electrical - Battery Engineering
Team name: Battery Engineering
About the Team and the Role
The Battery Engineering team at Ather is responsible for designing and developing advanced energy storage systems that power India’s most intelligent electric scooters.
This role is for a Battery Design Engineer specialized in electrical components, focusing on the critical hardware that ensures the safety, sensing, and performance of our battery packs.
Responsibilities
Act as the primary owner for PCBA components within the battery system.
Design voltage sensing circuits, fusing systems, and manage connector selection for battery architectures.
Translate electrical system requirements into mechanical system designs that can meet durability, acting as a bridge between the Battery and Hardware teams.
Review data for electrical test cases and model power circuits to analyze voltage imbalance across the complete battery pack.
Define and manage requirements for temperature sensing, pressure sensing, and voltage monitoring circuits.
Apply basic understanding of BMS and Battery Firmware to integrate electrical hardware with software logic.
Perform Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for electrical component failures.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure electrical systems meet both performance and packaging constraints.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in Electronic systems, or a Bachelor’s in Electronics/Mechatronics.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
Must Have Competencies
Development of voltage sensing, temperature sensing, and pressure sensing circuitry.
Design and selection of high-reliability electrical components, including fuses and connectors and electrical joints for optimal electrical and mechanical performance.
Proficiency in electrical system simulation using tools such as LT-Spice or Simulink.
Application of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis methodologies for electrical systems.
Good to Have Competencies
Design and layout of electrical systems using ECAD tools like Allegro or OrCAD.
Integration of embedded electronics within complex mechanical assemblies.
Modeling of power circuits and battery pack voltage imbalance.
Translation of functional requirements between electrical and mechanical engineering domains.
