A Backbase COE Head (Centre of Excellence) leads a specialized team focused on mastering and optimizing Backbase platform implementations for banking digital transformation.

Role overview

The Head of Backbase Centre of Excellence (COE) is responsible for building and leading a highperforming team of Backbase specialists who deliver bestpractice implementations, accelerate client success, and drive innovation using the Backbase Engagement Banking Platform. The role owns the technical strategy, knowledge management, and capability building for Backbase across regions/projects, acting as the internal authority on platform configuration, customization, and optimization for retail, SME, commercial, and wealth banking modules.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead the Backbase COE , defining technical standards, reusable accelerators, and best practices for platform implementation and customization.
• Oversee technical delivery across multiple client projects, ensuring highquality configuration, integration, and golive of Backbase modules (customer journeys, advisor tools, AI features).
• Build and mentor a team of Backbase architects, developers, and analysts , managing recruitment, training, certifications, and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with sales, product, and customer success to support RFPs, demos, POCs , and business case development using Backbase capabilities.
• Drive innovation and R&D within COE explore AI, microservices, and platform extensions to address client needs and differentiate offerings.
• Manage knowledge management : maintain solution blueprints, case studies, and reusable assets; conduct regular COE clinics and capability showcases.

Required skills and experience

• 10+ years in digital banking / fintech, with 5+ years handson Backbase experience across multiple implementations (preferably Engagement Banking Platform).
• Proven people leadership experience managing technical teams (1030+ members), including offshore/nearshore delivery.
• Deep technical expertise in Backbase configuration, APIs, microservices, Fiori/UI5, and integrations (core banking, payments, CRM).
• Strong understanding of banking domains (retail, SME, commercial, wealth) and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
