Job Description
Fourth Frontier is looking for a talented, self-driven Engineering Team Lead - Backend to join our expanding team who will be responsible for working on both front-end and back-end development processes. Design, develop, and maintain fully-fledged and functioning platforms with databases or servers.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
Technical Leadership
- Lead architecture, design, development, and deployment of product features across backend, and frontend teams.
- Drive the adoption of AWS Serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Cognito, Step Functions).
- Design scalable, fault-tolerant cloud architectures following AWS Well-Architected Framework and AWS Solutions Architect best practices.
- Oversee Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for provisioning, configuration, and automated deployments.
- Review code, support complex system design decisions, and enforce high engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
People & Team Management
- Manage, mentor, and develop engineers across disciplines (Backend/Frontend).
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, OKR/goal setting, and career development plans.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and team expansion initiatives.
Execution & Delivery
- Own sprint planning, delivery timelines, prioritization, and engineering execution.
- Ensure robust CI/CD pipelines for serverless deployments.
- Identify technical risks and drive mitigation strategies early in the lifecycle.
- Track and improve engineering KPIs (velocity, quality metrics, uptime SLAs, defect leakage).
Quality, Security & Compliance (HealthTech-specific)
- Ensure engineering outputs comply with ISO 27001, HIPAA/GDPR, and other healthcare regulations.
- Oversee secure development practices such as threat modeling, secure coding, vulnerability remediation, and compliance documentation.
- Work closely with QA to maintain high test coverage, automation, reliability, and platform/device compatibility.
- Contribute to audit readiness and regulatory certifications (ISO, SOC2, MDR where applicable).
Strategic Contributions
- Participate in roadmap planning, architecture evolution, and long-term technical strategy.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve engineering velocity and product quality.
- Promote best practices for observability, monitoring, performance optimization, and cost-efficient cloud usage.
Essential skills, qualifications and experience:
- Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of professional engineering experience, with at least 23 years leading engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- AWS Serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, S3, Cognito, SNS/SQS).
- Terraform for IaC.
- Microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Solid programming background in backend technologies (Node.js, Python, React.js, etc .).
- Experience with mobile (iOS/Android) and frontend (React, Angular, etc .).
- Strong grounding in cloud architecture aligned with AWS Solutions Architect principles.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience working in HealthTech, Medical Devices, Wearables, or highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of healthcare standards such as ISO27001, HL7/FHIR, IEC 62304, SOC2, MDR.
- Experience with BLE integrations, IoT platforms, or health sensor data.
- Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, or similar.
