Job Title : Azure SQL DBA

Key Responsibilities

• Database Provisioning and Configuration: Set up and configure new database instances, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs. This often involves automation using PowerShell, T-SQL, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database performance and resource usage (CPU, memory, storage) using tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Query Store, and third-party solutions. Analyze and optimize slow queries, manage indexes, and implement adaptive performance tuning.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Implement and maintain HA solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, replication, clustering, and geo-replication. Establish automated backup strategies using Azure Backup and conduct routine recovery drills to ensure point-in-time recovery capabilities.
• Security and Compliance: Manage database access control using Azure AD, RBAC, and the principle of least privilege. Implement data encryption (at rest and in transit), configure firewalls, and ensure compliance with data regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Automation and DevOps Integration: Automate routine tasks and integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps, PowerShell, T-SQL, and Git for version control.
• Migration and Upgrades: Lead and perform database migrations from on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL services (Managed Instance, Azure SQL DB) using tools like Azure Migrate and Data Migration Assistant.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Provide operational and production support, assisting development teams with troubleshooting application deployment issues across various environments (Dev, QA, Staging, Prod).

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience: Typically 4+ years of MS SQL Server administration experience, with specific experience managing databases in Azure environments.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of SQL Server versions (2016 and above), T-SQL, and performance tuning techniques. Experience with related Azure services like Azure Data Factory, Log Analytics, and Azure Automation.
• Certifications: Azure certifications such as AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) or DP-300 (Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate) are often highly desired.
• Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, time-management, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
