Job Description
The AV Pre-Sales Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and support during the sales process for audio-visual (AV) solutions. This role involves working closely with the sales team, clients, and other stakeholders to understand client requirements, design optimal AV solutions, and present technical proposals. The pre-sales engineer plays a key role in developing and delivering demonstrations and technical presentations and providing accurate technical documentation to ensure that the proposed AV solutions meet the clients needs and expectations.
Responsibilities
Client Needs Analysis & Requirements Gathering:
- Work closely with the sales team to understand client needs, technical requirements, and business objectives.
- Conduct site surveys, client meetings, and consultations to gather technical details and assess site-specific challenges.
- Translate customer needs into functional and technical specifications for AV solutions.
- Develop a clear understanding of the client's vision and provide tailored AV solutions that meet both their technical and budgetary requirements.
Solution Design & Proposal Development:
- Design customised audio-visual solutions based on client requirements, utilising available technologies, products, and solutions.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, design, and project management) to ensure solutions are feasible and scalable.
- Prepare technical proposals, system designs, and cost estimates, ensuring they align with client requirements.
- Create detailed technical documentation, including system designs, equipment lists, and specifications for the sales team to present to clients.
Product Demonstrations & Technical Presentations:
- Provide technical product demonstrations and presentations to clients, showcasing the capabilities of AV systems.
- Conduct proof-of-concept trials or demos to demonstrate how the proposed AV solution meets the clients objectives.
- Answer client questions regarding system performance, integration, and functionality, offering clear, concise explanations of technical aspects.
Sales Support & Collaboration:
- Support the sales team in technical discussions, ensuring all technical aspects of the sale are understood by the client.
- Assist in the preparation of RFPs, RFQs, and other sales documentation by providing technical input and answering detailed technical queries.
- Collaborate with the sales team to help drive the sales process and meet sales targets.
Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
- Work with the sales team to generate cost estimates and pricing for AV systems, ensuring they are competitive and meet client expectations.
- Assist in identifying cost-effective alternatives or upgrades to meet both the performance and budgetary needs of the client.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring that they receive expert advice and solutions tailored to their needs.
- Serve as the technical point of contact during the pre-sales phase, addressing any concerns and providing necessary technical support.
Technical Documentation & Reporting:
- Create and maintain accurate records of all proposals, designs, and technical communications with clients.
- Provide internal teams with detailed handover documentation, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to the implementation phase.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports to internal stakeholders or clients as required.
Market & Product Knowledge:
- Stay up to date with the latest AV technologies, products, and industry trends to provide the best solutions to clients.
- Continuously evaluate new AV products, tools, and solutions to keep the companys offerings competitive and innovative.
- Participate in training and certification programmes related to AV technologies to maintain a high level of technical proficiency.
Collaborate on Marketing Efforts:
- Support marketing efforts by providing technical content, including whitepapers, brochures, and case studies.
- Participate in trade shows, conferences, and other events to promote the companys AV solutions and products.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, audio-visual technology, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in pre-sales support, AV system design, or a technical sales role.
- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of AV systems, including audio, video, control systems, video conferencing, and integration technologies.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with AV design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp) and knowledge of AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, AMX, and Extron).
- Presentation Skills: Strong presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical clients.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to develop creative and cost-effective solutions for clients AV needs.
- Sales Support: Ability to collaborate with sales teams, provide technical support, and assist in closing deals.
- Customer-Focused: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to understand client needs and build long-term relationships.
- Certifications: An AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), or other relevant certifications, is a plus.
- Knowledge of Industry Trends: Understanding of current trends in AV technologies and integration methods.
Pay range and compensation package
This role may require occasional travel for site surveys, client meetings, or product demonstrations. Flexibility to work outside regular business hours, depending on client needs and project timelines.
