Job Description

Remote Criminal Appeals Attorney Contract or Part-Time Position

Our firm is seeking an attorney with strong legal-writing skills to assist with drafting work in criminal-appeals and post-conviction matters. This position is fully remote and focuses on preparing research-based drafts for review by senior attorneys. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys written advocacy and wants to contribute to meaningful appellate and post-conviction litigation without handling in-court appearances.

About the Role

The attorney will prepare draft briefs, memoranda, and related filings in criminal-appeals and post-conviction cases. Assignments may include direct appeals, post-conviction petitions, state habeas applications, and federal habeas corpus filings. Senior attorneys will provide issue outlines or key documents, and the drafting attorney will convert those materials into well-structured, persuasive written work.

Responsibilities

  • Draft appellate briefs, writ petitions, motions, and supporting memoranda in criminal cases
  • Review trial records, transcripts, and prior filings to identify relevant facts and legal issues
  • Conduct focused legal research on constitutional, evidentiary, and procedural issues
  • Revise drafts based on feedback from senior attorneys
  • Maintain clear communication and meet deadlines within a remote workflow

Qualifications

  • Law degree
  • Prior experience in appellate writing, post-conviction work, clerkships, or similar research-intensive roles
  • Strong command of legal writing, issue framing, and persuasive analysis
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Reliable organization, professionalism, and respect for deadlines

Details

  • Remote, flexible schedule
  • Part-time or contract work with ongoing assignments
  • Compensation commensurate with experience and workload
  • Ideal for attorneys who prefer research and writing over litigation appearances

If you have a strong interest in criminal-appeals advocacy and excel at crafting clear, well-reasoned written work, we welcome your application. Please send a rsum, a short writing sample (preferably from an appellate or post-conviction filing), and a brief note about your availability.
