Job Title: Associate Vice President / Vice President Business Development (Credit Ratings)

As we expand our footprint in the financial capital of India, we are looking for a high-impact leader to drive our growth in the Mumbai region.


Role Summary


We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven senior professional to join us as AVP/VP Business Development. In this strategic leadership role, you will be the face of the company in the Mumbai market. Your primary mandate will be to originate new rating mandates, deepen relationships with existing clients, and enhance the company's brand equity among intermediaries and market participants. Given the strategic importance of the Mumbai market, we are looking for a candidate with a long-standing history, deep-rooted connections, and a verifiable track record of business results in the Mumbai corporate ecosystem. We also highly value the deep analytical understanding of professionals transitioning from ratings background to business development and welcome such candidates to apply.


Key Responsibilities


1. Business Origination & Client Acquisition


  • Drive the end-to-end sales cycle for credit rating products, including Bank Loan Ratings, Bond/IPO ratings, SME ratings, and Structured Finance mandates.
  • Identify, target, and acquire new business from large and mid-corporate houses, NBFCs, and financial institutions in the Mumbai region.
  • Leverage existing relationships with C-level executives (CFOs, Promoters, Treasurers) to convert leads into rating mandates.


2. Stakeholder & Relationship Management


  • Build and nurture trusted advisor relationships with key decision-makers in corporates, ensuring high client retention and repeat business.
  • Manage relationships with market intermediaries such as investment bankers, consultants, and financial advisors to drive business referrals.
  • Enhance the company's visibility by representing the organization at industry forums, seminars, and client meet.


3. Market Intelligence & Strategy


  • Keep abreast of market trends, debt capital market activities, and competitive intelligence to identify new business opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to the analytical teams on market requirements and product development.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of clients' industries, including financial metrics and performance indicators.


4. Revenue Ownership


  • Achieve and exceed defined revenue and business development targets for the Mumbai region.
  • Develop and execute a go-to-market strategy tailored to the Mumbai corporate landscape.
  • Negotiate fee structures and commercial terms in alignment with company Policies.


Candidate Profile


Experience & Qualifications


  • MBA (Finance) or equivalent from a reputed institute.
  • 5 to 12 years of experience in Business Development / Corporate Sales within the credit rating industry or equivalent experience on the ratings side in the credit rating industry
  • Industry Background: Experience in a Credit Rating Agency is strongly preferred.


Essential Skills & Competencies


  • Deep Local Network: Must possess excellent, long-standing relationships with senior decision-makers (CFOs, Promoters, Treasury Heads) among Large and Mid-Corporates in Mumbai.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of debt capital markets, corporate credit analysis, and the regulatory framework governing credit ratings (SEBI CRA Regulations).
  • Hunter Mentality: Proven ability to originate business from "unrated" clients and convert cold calls into revenue-generating mandates.
  • Negotiation & Communication: Exceptional presentation, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to converse fluently in English and Hindi.
  • Integrity: High level of professional integrity and the ability to handle confidential information.
