Job Description
We invites applications for a senior leadership position at the level of Fellow, Senior Fellow,
Associate Director, or Director to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership across
agriculture, energy, and land resources. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team, shaping impactful research agendas, strengthening partnerships, ensuring financial sustainability, and aligning divisional priorities with institutional vision and long-term strategy.
The incumbent will play a pivotal role in driving cross-divisional collaboration, mentoring talent,
mobilizing resources, and enhancing visibility and influence within the national and
international development ecosystem.
1. Leadership and Strategic Vision:
-Develop and implement a shared vision and strategic direction for the centre.
-Drive a unified approach to addressing sustainability challenges through cross-divisional
collaboration.
2. Partnerships and Networking:
-Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in agriculture, energy, and
land resources sectors, including government bodies, NGOs, and international organizations.
-Identify and capitalize on opportunities to enhance research capabilities, product
development, and services.
3. Revenue Planning and Financial Oversight:
-Formulate revenue plans across agriculture, energy, and land resources with inputs from Area
Conveners and Associate Directors.
-Ensure financial sustainability by meeting revenue targets, managing budgets, and monitoring
both technical and financial activities.
4. Talent Management and Mentorship:
-Mentor fellow professionals and manage talent across divisions, encouraging cross-functional
teamwork and professional development.
5. Research Impact and Innovation:
-Guide the translation of divisional visions into high-impact, actionable research programs.
-Encourage team members to define Key Research Areas (KRAs) and Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs) for agriculture, energy, and land resources, with regular reviews of
progress.
6. Operational Coordination and Communication:
- Lead monthly divisional meetings and organize an annual retreat to foster collaboration,
assess progress, and address operational challenges.
-Communicate expectations and decisions to all Division members promptly to ensure
efficient operations.
7. Advisory and Resource Management:
-Oversee resource management, including coordinating with vendors and contractors to
support research activities.
-Provide strategic input on project adjustments in agriculture, energy, and land resources to
align with institutional goals.
8. Visibility and Dissemination:
-Actively promote the Centres research and achievements in agriculture, energy, and land
resources at key forums and platforms.
-Ensure research outcomes are effectively disseminated to stakeholders, showcasing the
Divisions impact.
Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent advanced degree in Agriculture, Energy, Environmental Science, Land
Resources Management, or related fields.
Experience and Competencies
-Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant sectors, with a
strong track record of leading impactful research or development programs.
-Demonstrated experience working with international development organizations, government
bodies, research institutions, or funding agencies.
-Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, partnerships, and large-scale projects.
-Strong strategic thinking, financial acumen, and resource mobilization skills.
-Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and representation capabilities.
