Assistant Professor Classical Dance

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Training

• Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in Classical Dance theory and practice.
• Conduct practical training sessions, rehearsals, and choreography workshops.
• Demonstrate classical dance techniques, expressions (abhinaya), rhythm (tala), and body movements.
• Prepare lesson plans, course materials, and assessment methods.

Performance & Choreography

• Guide students in stage performances, productions, and dance recitals.
• Choreograph performances for academic events, festivals, and competitions.
• Encourage students to develop creative choreography within classical traditions.

Student Mentorship

• Mentor students in performance skills, stage presentation, and professional development.
• Supervise student research, dissertations, and final performance projects.
• Assist students in building portfolios for professional dance careers.

Research & Academic Development

• Conduct research in classical dance, performing arts, or related cultural studies.
• Publish research papers, articles, or creative works.
• Participate in seminars, conferences, and workshops related to performing arts.

Departmental & Institutional Activities

• Participate in curriculum development and academic committees.
• Organize cultural programs, dance festivals, workshops, and guest lectures.
• Contribute to institutional outreach programs and collaborations with cultural organizations.

Required Qualifications

• Masters Degree (MFA / MA) in Classical Dance or Performing Arts from a recognized institution.
• NET / PhD preferred as per UGC or institutional guidelines.
• Formal training in recognized classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, or Manipuri.
