Position Title: Assistant Professor 3D Character Animation
School: School of Design and Digital Transmedia

Reports To: Head of the Department / Dean School of Design and Digital Transmedia
Role Overview:
The Assistant Professor 3D Character Animation will be responsible for teaching, mentoring, and
guiding students in character animation, 3D production pipelines, and digital storytelling. The role
combines academic excellence with industry-oriented practice, contributing to curriculum development, research, student projects, and institutional growth in the field of animation and digital media.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality instruction in 3D Character Animation, including:
- Character design and development
- Rigging and skinning
- Body mechanics and acting for animation
- Facial animation and lip-sync
- Animation principles and performance
Teach related subjects such as:
- 3D Modeling and Texturing
- Digital Sculpting
- Animation Production Pipeline
- Visual Storytelling and Cinematics
Develop and update course content, lesson plans, assignments, and assessment methods
aligned with industry standards.
Conduct studio-based learning, workshops, critiques, and demonstrations.
Evaluate student performance through continuous assessment, exams, and project reviews.
Student Mentorship & Academic Guidance
Mentor students on academic projects, portfolios, short films, and capstone projects.
Guide students in career pathways, internships, competitions, and industry readiness.
Support student participation in festivals, exhibitions, conferences, and showcases.
Research, Creative Practice & Professional Development
Engage in research, creative practice, or applied industry projects in animation, digital media,
or transmedia storytelling.
Publish research papers, creative works, or case studies as per university and regulatory norms.
Participate in faculty development programs (FDPs), workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Stay updated with emerging tools, techniques, and trends in animation and digital media.
Institutional & Administrative Responsibilities
Contribute to curriculum design and academic planning in collaboration with the department.
Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, accreditation processes, and quality
assurance activities.
Assist in organizing events, guest lectures, industry interactions, and student exhibitions.
Support university outreach, branding, and admissions-related activities when required.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in Animation, Design, Digital Media, Fine Arts, or a related field (as per
UGC/AICTE norms).
Strong academic background with relevant specialization in 3D Character Animation.
NET/Ph.D. preferred as per regulatory requirements (or as applicable).
Required Skills & Technical Expertise
Proficiency in industry-standard software such as:
- Autodesk Maya / Blender
- ZBrush
- Substance Painter / Designer
- Adobe Creative Suite
Strong understanding of animation principles, anatomy, acting, and storytelling.
Knowledge of production workflows used in animation studios and digital media pipelines.
Ability to teach both conceptual and practical aspects effectively.
Desired Attributes
Passion for teaching and mentoring students.
Industry experience in animation, VFX, gaming, or digital media is an added advantage.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
