Assistant Finance Manager - Mumbai

Job Summary:

We are hiring an Assistant Finance Manager who can act as a strong second-in-command to the finance leadership. This role is not limited to bookkeeping or compliance, it is about owning financial discipline across operations, ensuring numbers reflect business reality, and enabling leadership with timely, accurate insights. The ideal candidate will combine technical accounting strength with business understanding, have comfort working close to operations, and take ownership of outcomes rather than tasks.

Our client is a well-established and fast-growing fashion accessories brand in India, operating across manufacturing, domestic retail, exports, and omni-channel distribution. With increasing scale, complexity, and regulatory expectations, the company is strengthening its finance function to support sustainable growth, tighter controls, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Ownership & Control

• Take responsibility for the integrity of financial data, ensuring books accurately reflect operational performance.
• Actively review monthly financials to identify anomalies, risks, or inefficiencies before they escalate.
• Ensure financial hygiene across inventory, expenses, vendor balances, and receivables.

Business-Focused Accounting

• Work closely with operations, sourcing, and sales teams to understand how transactions flow and ensure correct financial treatment.
• Bridge the gap between commercial decisions and accounting impact.
• Ensure pricing, margins, and costs are correctly captured and reported.

Month-End Discipline & Reporting

• Drive timely month-end closure with minimal post-close corrections.
• Prepare meaningful management reports that explain what changed, why it changed, and what needs attention.
• Support leadership with insights on margins, working capital, and cost trends.

Compliance Without Firefighting

• Ensure statutory compliances (GST, TDS, Income Tax) are predictable, timely, and clean, not last-minute.
• Maintain readiness for audits at all times instead of reactive preparation.
• Coordinate with consultants and auditors while retaining internal ownership of numbers.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Actively monitor cash inflows and outflows, not just report them.
• Track inventory movement, vendor payment cycles, and customer collections to highlight pressure points.
• Support leadership in improving cash efficiency across the business.

Process Improvement & Scale Readiness

• Identify manual processes, control gaps, or inefficiencies and propose better ways of working.
• Strengthen SOPs so finance processes scale with business growth.
• Support ERP / system improvements from a finance-user perspective.

Team & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Guide junior team members and review their work for accuracy and learning.
• Communicate clearly with non-finance teams without jargon.
• Build credibility as a finance partner, not just a control function

Role Requirements

• Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA).
• Experience: 45 years of post-qualification experience in finance and accounting roles.
• Strong fundamentals in accounting, reporting, and Indian regulatory framework.
• Experience in consumer brands, fashion, manufacturing, retail, or trading businesses is highly preferred.
• Comfortable working with ERP systems and advanced Excel.
• Ability to think beyond entries and understand business context.
• High ownership mindset, attention to detail, and comfort handling ambiguity.

Work Schedule: Monday Saturday

Salary: As per industry standards
