Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Cost Control & Management Centre of Excellence (COE) is part Group Enablement Services (GES) at Standard Chartered GBS. The role will be supporting Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) to enable business owners, function heads, and senior management with data and analysis support to understand, assess, verify, and challenge cost, investment, portfolio, and expense related aspects.
Responsibilities
Consolidating and analyzing financial data (budgets, income statement forecasts), taking into account company’s goals and financial objectives
Perform cost driver analysis and provide creative alternatives / recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance
Assembling and summarizing data to structure sophisticated reports on financial status and risks
Develop financial models, conduct benchmarking and process analysis. Conduct business studies on past, future, and comparative performance and develop forecast models
Build benefit tracking mechanism to effectively track impact of the proposed measures
Conduct thorough analysis of internal metrics and objectives to develop a future fit strategy.
Troubleshoot current issues and implement solutions post a thorough analysis of industry best practices and help establish proper objectives and goals (e.g., available through industry reports)
Bring inside-out and outside-in perspective and propose development of coherent plans of action (jointly with stakeholders)
Influence business in effective decision making, adapt to changing conditions that impact goals by identifying by enabling businesses solve problems, improve business performance, create value, and maximize ROI/RoTE
A day in Cost Control & Management COE will involve performing:
o Cost Analysis and Transparency: Perform cost driver analysis and actionable insights, ensure accurate cost allocation and regular reporting / tracking, analyse and provide clarity on cost service charges from supporting functions (e.g., legal, compliance, credit), provide clarity on contra revenue items
o Third party impact assessment: assess third party contract allocation impact and ways to drive efficiencies and value to business (cost, process, deliverables), efficiently support aspects of the contract lifecycle to ensure favorable terms, contract tracking and management (e.g., contract expiry, capital charges tracking, contract repository)
o Cost Optimization and Benchmarking: Develop with COO cost optimization plans with execution focus, benchmarking cost of doing business across industry peers, sharing ideas and best practices across products, deep dives into significant cost category for potential cost savings
o Demographics Analysis & Headcount management: perform Headcount and productivity analysis including benchmarking against peers, evaluate as-is landscape (e.g., location footprint, spans & layers) to optimise teams as per the strategy, monitor hiring against the corporate plans and budgets, develop Front to Back view of resources supporting business
o Budget / Forecast Tracking & Planning: Financial planning and forecasting, drive accurate cost budget setting, establish effective forecasting mechanism, track cost against budget and forecast, understand drivers for overrun and flag thematic issues

-Experience in Banking, Strategy advisory and Valuation related industry - preferably in Front office/business cost management or experience in cost optimisation initiativesWell versed in excel/financial modelling
-Experience in dashboarding tools like Tableau, Power BI preferred
-Working knowledge of banking products/teams preferred
-Prior experience as People leader preferred, but that is not a showstopper
A candidate with prior investment banking / financial analysis / strategy consulting is preferred
Proven knowledge of financial modelling / forecasting and diagnosis, corporate finance and information analysis. Hands on experience with statistical analysis an advantage
Proficient in spreadsheets, databases, MS Office and financial software applications
A strategic thinker, entrepreneurial, able to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
Flexible and creative: ability to propose innovative ideas, build empathy within the firm and win the trust of the clients
