Job Description

The Assistant Director (AD) plays a critical role in supporting the Director across all phases of production from concept development and pre-production planning to on-ground execution and post-production coordination. The AD acts as the operational backbone of the creative process, ensuring that the Directors vision is executed smoothly, efficiently, and within timelines.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about filmmaking, understands production workflows, and thrives in fast-paced, on-set environments.


Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Production Planning

  • Assist the Director in script breakdowns, storyboards, and creative planning.
  • Support in creating shot lists, call sheets, schedules, and production timelines.
  • Coordinate with production, casting, location, art, styling, and camera teams.
  • Help prepare creative decks, moodboards, and visual references.
  • Ensure all departments are aligned on creative and logistical expectations.

2. On-Set Execution

  • Act as the Directors right hand on set.
  • Manage daily shoot schedules and ensure timelines are adhered to.
  • Coordinate between departments (camera, lighting, art, styling, sound, talent).
  • Assist in blocking scenes, rehearsals, and performance coordination.
  • Handle on-ground problem-solving and real-time decision support.
  • Maintain continuity and track scene coverage.

3. Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the main communication bridge between Director and crew.
  • Ensure instructions and creative inputs are clearly communicated.
  • Conduct crew briefings and keep teams aligned on shot progress.
  • Maintain discipline, structure, and workflow efficiency on set.

4. Post-Production Support

  • Assist in coordinating with editors and post-production teams.
  • Track edits, reviews, feedback loops, and approvals.
  • Ensure post-production timelines are followed.
  • Support the Director during review and final delivery stages.

5. Documentation & Workflow Management

  • Maintain production documentation and daily shoot reports.
  • Track scripts, storyboards, call sheets, and shot lists.
  • Support production managers with scheduling and logistics.
  • Ensure deliverables are aligned with timelines and quality benchmarks.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Film, Media, Mass Communication, or related field.
  • 24 years of experience in a production environment as an AD, DA, or production coordinator.
  • Hands-on experience with digital, branded, or commercial shoots.
  • Strong understanding of on-set hierarchy and protocols.
