Role Overview
As the Writing Mentor at YS Education, you will play a key role in mentoring, onboarding, engaging with clients, and coordinating meetings with them and senior team members. This role involves a mix of Writing and mentoring, cultivating relationships with students, and working closely with them.
Key Responsibilities
1 . Student Profiling & Essay Support
- Conduct in-depth conversations with students to understand their personal stories, experiences, goals, and strengths.
- Draft, edit, and refine college application essays (personal statements, supplemental essays, SOPs, etc.) that authentically represent each students voice.
- Ensure all written materials align with university guidelines, deadlines, and admission requirements.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and guide them through multiple iterations of their essays.
- Support students in identifying, structuring, and articulating their capstone projects and research opportunities, ensuring these experiences are presented compellingly in their applications.
- Helping create Road maps for students and monitoring timelines mutually agreed upon by communicating and coordinating with students in each time frame.
- Help in creating a college list.
2. Research & Ideation
- Stay updated on global education trends, application requirements, and storytelling techniques.
- Conduct background research on universities, programs, and opportunities to strengthen both student essays.
Skills
- Passion for working with students and parents; strong interpersonal and empathetic communication.
- Excellent academic writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge of foreign university admissions and application processes.
- Research-oriented mindset with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Creative thinker with a proactive attitude toward ideation and improvement.
- Preferred Qualification: Bachelors degree (Humanities, Education, Communications, or related field preferred).
- Prior experience in education counselling, academic writing, or related roles is a plus.
