We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join the Finance team in Bangalore, India to support the work of the reporting team.
About the Role
As an Assistant Controller at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will report into the Finance Reporting Team and be responsible for:
General accounting and month end reporting
Assist in preparing financial reconciliations and reports related to balance sheet, income statements, and cash flow.
Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of transactions in the general ledger.
Ensure accurate monthly reconciliations and collaborate with the team to address and resolve any discrepancies that may arise.
Prepare journals for general accounting to ensure all financial transactions are properly documented.
Address and resolve transaction and payment queries to ensure smooth financial operations.
Preparation and Analysis
Support the preparation and analysis of month-end reporting to ensure all financial data is accurate and up to date.
Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and potential issues, providing insights to support decision-making.
Developments in the team
Collaborate with the team and staff in the Foundation as required to develop and implement financial policies, processes , procedures, and guides that support strong internal controls and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
Ensure compliance with international and UK charities reporting requirements and tax filings, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations.
Participate in updating , developing and implementing new accounting systems and processes as required to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Audits
Prepare working files and documentation for interim and end-of-year audits conducted with auditors, ensuring all financial records are accurate and complete.
About You
To be our Assistant Controller, you will likely have:
Qualifications:
Professional accountancy or finance qualification (CPA, CMA, CA/ICWA, MBA (Fin), or similar) preferred.
Experience:
Experience in month-end close activities, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with SAP (or similar ERP).
2+ years of relevant work experience required.
Mandatory 2-3 days work from office every week.
Technical Skills:
Excellent proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel (Power BI an advantage).
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide insights.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
Proactive mindset with a willingness to take initiative and drive process improvements.
