About this Opportunity
As an Art Director within Target Creative’s Brand Design Lab, you will lead the development of compelling, brand-aligned creative solutions across Target’s owned brand portfolio. This role centers on delivering high-impact work that advances core business priorities while elevating design standards across categories.
You will serve as a steward of Target’s brand expression, ensuring adherence to established style guides and design systems while thoughtfully evolving them to meet emerging business and guest needs. Through strong conceptual thinking, category research, and visual exploration, you will craft design solutions that are both strategically grounded and creatively distinctive.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring end-to-end ownership; from interpreting the brief to delivering final creative assets. You will operate with clarity, confidence, and a strong sense of accountability, bringing together strategic insight, aesthetic excellence, and production precision.
You will also embrace innovation as part of your creative practice thoughtfully leveraging AI and emerging tools to enhance exploration, efficiency, and ideation while ensuring all final outputs reflect a human-centered aesthetic and unmistakable Target brand authenticity.
Beyond project delivery, you will contribute to a culture of collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning, supporting onboarding efforts, engaging in cross-functional initiatives, and investing in your own growth to remain at the forefront of industry trends and creative best practices.

Roles and Responsibilities
Creative Excellence & Brand Stewardship
Lead high-impact creative initiatives aligned to core business priorities
Ensure all deliverables uphold Target’s brand standards, design systems, and packaging guidelines, while identifying opportunities to elevate and evolve them
Develop strategically grounded visual concepts through research, category understanding, and strong design craft
End-to-End Creative Ownership
Own the creative process from brief interpretation through final production delivery
Translate business objectives into compelling, on-brand design solutions with strong attention to detail, authenticity, and guest relevance
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to drive alignment and quality outcomes
Present work confidently, articulate design rationale clearly, and incorporate feedback effectively
Apply sound print production knowledge to ensure technical and visual excellence
Innovation, Collaboration & Growth
Leverage AI tools thoughtfully to enhance ideation, exploration, and efficiency while maintaining human-centered creativity and brand integrity
Participate actively in team workflows, translating strategic inputs into impactful creative outputs
Support onboarding and peer development, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture
Continuously invest in learning, experimentation, and industry awareness to strengthen craft and creative leadership

Preferred Experience & Educational Profile
Minimum 3+ years of design experience within a branding or design agency environment
Design degree or equivalent professional qualification
Strong creative portfolio demonstrating expertise in branding, packaging design, typography, and photo art direction
Proficiency in key creative software programs including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Keynote
Strong written and verbal communication skills
