Archiving Squad Data Engineer

Sonata is seeking talented Data Engineers to join the Archiving Squad, supporting data archiving initiatives, legacy system migrations, and simplified reporting delivery. You will contribute to the transition of data from legacy environments into a Data Vaultbased architecture, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, compliance, and performance. This role requires strong hands-on skills in SQL, Solix, AWS, and data engineering fundamentals, along with good communication and documentation abilities.

Key Responsibilities

Data Archiving & Migration

• Execute data archiving strategy for large-scale legacy system decommissioning.
• Migrate structured and semi-structured data from legacy platforms into Data Vault models and archival repositories.
• Work with SMEs, data architects, and business analysts to validate data mappings, rules, and transformations.

Development & Reporting

• Develop simple operational and validation reports using Solix and SQL-based tools.
• Build SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts required for data extraction, cleansing, and archival loading.
• Support metadata capture, data lineage tracking, and data quality validations.

Documentation & SDLC Compliance

• Prepare clear and complete documentation including design specifications, mapping documents, and technical procedures.
• Ensure all work aligns with SDLC standards, quality controls, and governance frameworks.
• Participate in peer reviews, testing cycles, and audit readiness.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with cross-functional squads including architects, QA teams, and business stakeholders.
• Provide updates, walkthroughs, and clarifications to both technical and non-technical teams.
• Senior engineers will help provide mentoring and support to junior team members.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in data engineering workflows and ETL/ELT processes.
• Solid proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, profiling, and reporting.
• Experience working with Solix archiving platform (or similar archiving tools).
• Working knowledge of AWS services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, RDS, or EMR.
• Familiarity with Data Vault modelling concepts (hubs, links, satellites).

Additional Skills

• Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Good documentation skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communicationability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively in squad-based delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• 610 years of data engineering experience (hiring for multiple levels).
• Experience in data archiving or application decommissioning projects.
• Exposure to legacy systems (e.g., Oracle, mainframe, SAP, custom ERP).
• Knowledge of Python or shell scripting is a plus.
• Experience working in consulting or client-facing environments.
