Role Description

This is a part-time, remote freelancer position for a VMware Support Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting VMware-related issues, maintaining and optimizing virtualized environments, and assisting clients with service requests and inquiries. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality customer service and ensure stable and efficient operations within virtualized infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

Own and resolve escalated L2 incidents related to VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter

Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and provide detailed incident reports & technical documentation

Administer and troubleshoot vSAN, vMotion, HA, DRS, and storage policies

Support Veeam or similar backup / disaster recovery solutions in production environments

Patch, upgrade, and maintain vCenter, ESXi hosts, and VMware toolsets

Mentor L1 engineers and contribute to knowledge base articles, SOPs, and runbooks

Required Skills & Qualifications

35 years of hands-on experience in VMware environments (vSphere 7.x / 8.x)

Strong proficiency in vCenter Server, ESXi host management, and vSphere Client

Solid understanding of HA, DRS, vMotion, vSAN, and Resource Pools

Knowledge of storage technologies: NFS, iSCSI, FC SAN, VMFS, and Datastores

Good understanding of networking fundamentals: VLANs, Distributed vSwitch (DVS), and Teaming Policies

Nice to Have

Experience in enterprise production support environments

Exposure to DR planning, backup validation, and infrastructure maintenance

Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
